At a lose end today and thought suns out let’s get out on my new bike. 15 miles in and noticed white smoke in the mirrors, and looked down to see oil all over the exhausts. Pulled out and oil is everywhere, all over the exhaust, rear tyre and dripping all on the floor. The bikes only done 170 miles, so not impressed. However good news I pulled over and into a pub car park, so while I wait for the AA and 6 pints later, it did not feel that bad Wife’s already taunting me with Italian engineering…..
It’s the V2 but no idea at this stage, AA delivered to Ducati Alton so will get diagnostic in the next few days. Will be asking for a new tyre as well, it was covered in oil.
https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/v4s-catasrophic-oil-leak.92820/#post-1997962 Happened to my Scrambler last year. Oil was everywhere including all over the back tyre. It was down to a faulty gasket. Dealer sorted it and thoroughly cleaned the bike, because it was a right mess.
Just found it a rear bolt to the engine sheered off. They not seen this before so parts are ordered and then check if this solves it. More to come over the next few days once they fitted it and done checks.
Well it was the bolt after the test. Ducati are also replacing the rear tyre and exhaust due to the oil so all in all been dealt with very well by them. Should be back next week.
Which bolt was it out of curiosity? Stick a pic up please. Might just check mine on my V2. Better safe than sorry
The exhaust being replaced as the staining from the oil can not be removed. Sorry chaps I did not ask for pics, but will ask once I collect the bolt in question.
Id definitely offer to pay the difference between the standard exhaust and the Akra (cons, not full system). I bet the difference isn’t actually that high. I have them on mine, they’re great.
A friend has them on his. Its louder than my 1299 with full akra. Nice tho. I say hes a friend. What i meant was hes a c…. (If hes reading this)
"bolt sheered off" sounds very strange - I can understand bolts working loose if not correctly torqued, but to sheer is worry. Sure if it's old/rusty then could sheer when trying to remove etc, but for a new bolt to sheer seems odd - of course it depends on the details, but typically more likely to strip thread. Anyway, hopefully Snells can explain.
