Hi folks, Just doing a bit of research to swap the stock exhaust on my Streetfighter 848.... Anyone out there with an SC Project CR-T set-up? I know these are sold as race-only without baffles (and indeed without the option to add baffles). I just wondered where they sit on the anti-social scale? The Akrapovics on by previous KTM 990 Superduke were pretty loud and gave me both ear and tooth ache over long distances, but at least I could shove some baffles in. If you have the CR-T, how are you getting on, and in hindsight, would you have gone with the road-friendly version with removable baffles. Also, they recommend you fit the separate additional power unit - did you buy this, or just get a reflash of the existing ECU (or not bother doing anything and just shoving the cans on)? Cheers all, Jon.
Looking at the website, there doesn't seem to be anything their power unit is doing that couldn't be done better with a full custom remap. It appears to be their own take on a power commander. I reckon you'd need to check out how loud that pipe is going to be or you could end up with an expensive white elephant that can't be used on road or track. Also is it stamped "Not for road use"? If it is its not much use. Not keen on the looks of their road legal offering. Too much like any number of budget slip-ons. Why not have a look at Austin Racing? Very similar looks to the SC race system and proven for road use.
Cheers Gimlet. I've seen a few youtube clips with the can in question, but it's hard to get a true feel. The 3 sets of Akras I had on my last 3 KTMs were all stamped not for road use, but never caused me any problems, so not too concerned about that. I'm with you on the road version... not really what I'm after. AR Racing would really be my first choice, but quite pricey at £900 (cheap, I know, when compares with Termis or Akras). The SC Project can is around £600 depending on exchange rate.
I'm still looking for a back to back dyno comparison between the AR single can and the twin Termis. I doubt if there is much in it in overall power between the two but the characteristics might be different. I wouldn't want to be adding a sliver of top end power at the expense of bottom end or midrange, or losing any torque, especially when I've spent a lot of money on engine work to put my midrange and bottom end on steroids. Going from the standard catted cans I would think anything would be an improvement. I've got Termi slip-ons on the standard de-valved link and headers. I think there's more midrange torque to be liberated with a different exhaust set-up, but going through exhaust systems on a trial and error basis is a very expensive experiment.
