so. I've got a couple of weeks off over the Christmas period and I want to repaint or powdercoat my frame. I'm fairy handy with spannering but will I need any special tooling? And I'm a bit wary of the fiddly wiring loom and associated fiddlyness. Any tips? Do's and dont's? Any input appreciated, ta. Paul
Top yoke tool jobbie? Pre soak the swing arm pin with WD or similar, yours may be ok if trackie only. Do you have a bike table? If you're striping the whole bike I find engine removal easier with the bike on the deck (wheels and forks off) then lift the frame off engine. Take care removing the swingarm arm pin as above, if it's stuck it may just be a bit misaligned as one end has come out. Getting medieval on it at this stage can result in damaged engine cases....Which is a bad thing.:Nailbiting:
Label the loom as you disassemble. It's easier to put back on than you'd think as many of the connectors only match their mating half.
+1 for detailed photographs. Nelson's idea about supporting the engine, remove the swing arm and forks and then lift the frame off the engine makes a lot of sense. Andy
A few photos of my 748SPS being rebuilt might help as it might give you an idea how to proceed. As can be seen in one photo I used a short step ladder to hold up the front end. One photo shows the frame which was lowered over the engine and then everything lined accordingly and lifted up.
You seem to have the shock and height adjuster on the wrong sides . Only way you can do that is if the rocker is upside down.
Wow! Thanks fellas. Some great info here. I can't wait to get cracking now. How long will it take a first timer? Plenty of tea breaks remember.
I probably did at that point. I subsequently changed to an adjustable ride height adjuster and corrected the error.
Yeah, Ducati- making mechanics from riders since 1957. . . Or something like that. Thanks for the input gents, I'll look forward to my man cave time. I'll post piccies when its all back together with its bastard expensive carbon fibre adornments.
Still got it !-) Got a couple offers which weren't what I wanted, so kept it, just had frame painted, belts done etc. Just abt ready for Almeria in February,
