Thanks all for the advice guys. Stripped down the ignition bits, cleaned all connections, tested coils, treated it to a new battery. Back on the road. Did the in gear push in case starter motor stuck. So I don't know what the exact problem was but it seems cured. That's Ducati's I suppose.
