1200 Sump Bolt

  1. So upon doing a routine oil change, I found this. The magnet on the sump plug is broken. Livid. How does this even happen. I have had the bike since new. Never been crashed or dropped. Always had services on time..
Question is. What to do now? I don’t know how much and whats gone round the engine. Anyone else had this issue?

  2. Put it back in and ride on.

  3. I wonder if it was like that since new, or at least since before the last service. I'd have thought that the magnet would have definitely cleaned up after itself if it had broken in use, attracting the those magnetic bits back, and any bits that stuck back on would have been cleaned off during a service.
    As Siddo said, keep riding.

  4. I would fit a new one as that one may be cracked and disintegrate further.

  5. I’ve seen quite a few like that over the years. I think it’s caused when they’re made. The centre pin that holds the magnet is swagged over. If it’s done a little too much, then the magnet will crack. If it broke during service, it’d be stuck to the magnet…….

  6. Mine is the same, bought the bike new. As Nelly says, must be a production issue. Ride on!!
