This may seem stupid, but do Supercorsa really dislike less than about 10 degree weather? I am having a fair time trying to get used to the 848 in the cold weather. Some days the grip seems to be ok but I was out last night on dry but really salty roads and could not feel a thing from the tyres. It was bloody horrible. The bike wanted to tip into corners due to the sharp profile but I felt like it was just going to let go at any second so I cut the ride short and came home. There was just absolutely no way to figure out what the tyres were up to at all. :frown: Contrast this with a very similar experience last week where the first 50 miles were like that, then the sky cleared and the temperature picked up to 10-11C and they instantly started working brilliantly. I've never ridden on these before but am used to pretty sporty tyres, but always go for something one level back towards Road riding compared to the Supercorsas which are one stage too far towards track biased for me I think. They seem to do nothing until they are really quite warm (which I'd expect I suppose) but are the Supercorsas like this for everyone or is it all in my head?
No it's not all in your head. The wet/cold performance is poor they really don't like cold roads and are even worse in the rain. If your going to use your bike most of the year then you'd do well to think about changing when these are toast, I know of people that have switched them out before even picking there new bike up but, you might as well use them up now the worst it out the way. Bridgstone S20r's, Metzeler M5's, Michelin Power pure are probably beter choices for all year riding and will still happily do TD's aswell.
Thanks for this. It was really getting me down. I've ridden constantly (albeit less between October and March) for 14 years, but this past winter was the first time I'd had a clean break between November and March as I sold my GSXR at the end of 2012. Then I jumped on the 848 and have found the feel very hard to get used to. It was fine enough in the rain - as much as you could expect - but the very cold dry roads were something I thought should be ok to ride on, and they have been worse than the rain. I've only really been out in this weather as I had to get it run in. It's now got 900 miles on so I'll be a little more picky The wee snapshot I got of decent, warm-ish dry roads seemed to point to it being cold tyres that was the issue but I still wasn't sure. The weather looks to have sorted itself out a bit now (hopefully!) so it should get better now. I wouldn't normally choose Supercorsas as I am only going to to 2 or 3 half day sessions on track a year and the rest of my riding is on the road. When these are used up I'll replace them with something like the Pures or the latest Diablo Rosso Corsas. That's something I'll look into after the summer I guess. Hopefully now I can forget the horrible rides on these tyres and get on with having fun! Thanks for the feedback on this, really useful to put my experience of the 848 so far into context. Andy
Yip, they get very good comments from anyone I've seen who's tried them. These were on my list of options for the GSXR before I decided to move on to the 848.
I had a similar experience with the Supercorsas, didn't like them at all. Did about 1500 miles on them and changed them out for Bridgestones. Got caught in rain a couple of times last year too and they were just plain horrible in that Been considering trying some Metzelers? A friend raves about them so I'm tempted, although I've found tyres seem to be a relatively personal thing so a little unsure.
Think the cold v rain difference is you take it easier in rain, where as dry and cold game on. SCs are great tyres, I love them, but will be changing for a more multi purpose as I intend to do a few miles this year and don'tfancy changing tyres every 1500 miles
Reckon you're spot on there Bradders. Somehow you assume it's ok as it's dry, even though it's cold. But when it's wet you expect no grip and ride accordingly. No idea how it's taken me 14 years to realise it. Maybe it's just that the Supercorsas have made it so obvious. Anyway, been a cracking day here today. Proper Spring weather. But I was too busy to make use of it... I'll wear the set out and see what happens. Cheers.
Peeing down here! And has been all day. Touch and go if it clears overnoght, or the ride to Thruxton on race SCs, not road ones, I have fitted will be fun...
