Superlight Casings

  1. Looking at taking the side casings off and other than the Externals is there anything I need to bear in mind from the internal side, i.e. Sliding the casings off and having springs etc flying all over the place ?

  2. If you take off the alternator side, the generator (without the rotor) comes away with the case so you have to disconnect the yellow wires........and oil runs out unless you lean the bike over to the right.................but then you will find it hard to get at the clutch side.......so you will end up draining the oil anyway.

There is also a bearing in the alternator case, which should stay in OK.

And of course there is the clutch slave on the alternator side as well....

You can make a puller easily.........3 holes in a thick tyre lever did mine......the centre hole thread M10..........Round off the end of the bolt you use.........the outside holes, large enough to take two M6 bolts through them.

  3. Oil dropped, all bolts out and externals removed, can I budge the casing......can I Buggary !!!!!!
Bashed with wood and a minor adjustment tool ( hammer) tried getting a thin bladed screw driver in but that didn't work.
Don't have access to heat and I'm concerned about doing damage if I hit it too hard !! The casings have obviously been off in the last few years as the sealent looks clean and white, where it's squided out ( stop me if I'm getting too technical)
Any ideas chaps ? Or am I being to much of a wuss and I just need to hit it harder !!!!!!
    Help

  4. Make the proper extractor/puller for the alternator case.......It isn't hard...........just look at it and take a measurement across the two c/s bolt holes.

It's no good bashing away....the end of the crankshaft is in the bearing in the outer case and the magnetism holds the stator on the rotor.

  5. +1 it's a doddle to make a puller & without one you'll f'ck something up :upyeah:

  6. I've removed these cases with little more than a light tap around the case with a rubber mallet (tap with one hand, pull with the other)
I know a puller is best, but with the ease they come off with I see little point...

  7. Thanks for all the advice guys, I'm gonna give it a go over the next couple of days, the reason I want them off is to paint them, gonna look really nice when it's done :upyeah:
