Superlight Owner From Scotland

  1. Long time owner saying Hi.
After a few bikes -not a vast number by any means, all 2-strokes, from a 100cc Yamaha to pass my test on through a ratty LC350 (previous owner raced it), YPVS350 (great bike) then a KR1-S (fab fun machine) before I fell for this big lump of red Italian - MKIV Superlight.
Owned it for something like 12 years, not put much mileage on it most years - it''s a toy TBH.
Currently has 19,000 miles (correction from the excessive 10xactual mileage of 190,000 originally stated !).
Nasty bottom end noise one afternoon when starting it up in the late summer of 2014 has resulted in me consigning the current engine to the back of the garage and I've sourced a Monster engine that I am doing a top-end rebuild on as it had 2 snapped head studs.
Got all of these buggers out now - all tight, 1 very, very tight, and now the parts are heading my way (belts just about to be ordered through Exige on here) and hopefully myself and my mate will get it up and running this year.

    Based just south of Edinburgh.

  2. welcome Dave :)

  3. Thanks.
I had seriously considered just getting shot of the bike after it sat in the garage for months without me touching it.
I'd enquired about a rebuild and really the engine in my opinion needs a total rebuild as metal particles have likely been circulating around it but at a reputable place that's £1500 ->2000 which is just too much for me at the moment whilst resale value as it stood was probably below £1500.
I recently got wind of a Monster engine that seemed decent and at a decent price so I've taken that risk and hopefully with this rebuild it will be a sound motor for a few more miles.
If funds and enthusiasm can be gathered then I might embark on a rebuild of the original engine and do some upgrading whilst it is apart - that is 2 - 4 years away though - would love to have the original engine back in the frame.
As I started to get the bike ready to remove the engine it looked really sad and unloved and I wondered whether I was taking the right decision as I've never done this level of work on a 4 stroke before but with my mate's assistance we are on the way now !
