Although I've had loads of bikes in nearly 45 year love affair - from Sports bikes,Quads,Choppers,Streetfighters and scramblers I've never had a road legal supermoto? The nearest thing to one has been a Yamaha XT 500,RM 250 etc but that was when Jesus was a boy! I fancy something like a KTM 640 or similar but it's only gonna be for a bit of summer fun so I don't wanna give brewsters for one and do a lump of poke when I move it on - say around the £2/2500 mark? Anyone got any recommendations, advice or even a suitable machine sitting around gathering dust??? I'm an old git so electric start would be a bonus as I've heard that early KTMs are a handful to kick? Help please!
Hope this helps , I have a 400 drz sm , 17 inch wheels runs on supercorsas during summer and full wets at winter, the most fun I have had on a bike, maybe not a proper supemoto as only a single cylinder 400 but so much fun to ride not the fastest but it will out do most around a corner , rides over all the bumps in the road , wheelies well, comfy and noisy , not called a thumper for a reason, have owned sports bikes all my riding career but this thing left all those in the garage for months still got it along with the pani and zx6r 636 but this thing makes me smile a lot more , as for advise on what you should get, cannot help really , depends if you want something super fast or like ,e a fun bike that's not fast top end
I also bought a Suzuki drz400sm for the winter. I absolutely love it. I've had so much fun on it and now the roads have dried out its even better. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun on any supermoto you end up getting.
Great bikes , they should of called it the smile maker , and it's great down some green lanes , if there is one bike I have ridden that you can chuck into any corner and get great feedback it's the sm
Great bike the DRZ400SM (I put DRZ400E cams in mine, gives it zip!), loved mine! WR450F now, rip it up...lol
Had a KTM 640 for 8 years, best fun with yer clothes on, won't pull your socks off, but 0-60 was fun sounded great with a Doma race system, handles brilliantly, the only let down was all the electronic safety stuff that shook itself to death, bypassed the side stand, kill switch and in gear safety switches in the end. fairly straight forward to service reasonably comfy and 3k out of the rear tyre if you took it easy
