Superpole v DP seat

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Loverobot, Jul 16, 2013.

  1. Recently put on a superpole as wanted more grip when hung off
Love the grip but I now feel I am on rather than in the bike, plus its changed my position to put a lot onto the wrists
I am pretty short at 5' 7" and can touch the ground with one foot - not too bothered by that tbh its just I am now sat very tall and very forwards due to stretch
Is the dp seat as grippy? Is it as low as the bog stock seat?
Anyone of a similar height and able to relate to the above - have any first hand experience?

  2. The DP seat shares the exact same profile as the oem seat so neutral in that respect. Grips pretty well and night and day better than the stock seat does.

Negatives - Can wear quite quickly and look a bit tatty and you get a wet bum in the rain as it soaks it up a bit.

  3. This is a topical one for me. I've got the chance of a Superpole seat from a mate for a decent price, but he's said I really have to try it first.

Looking at it online, it looks like it's going to hold me in place more and separate me from the tank. I like to sit right forward in the seat so not sure it's going to suit me, and also if it puts more weight on my wrists it's probably not for me.

Who's got one fitted and how have you found it compared to stock? I would like more stablilty when hanging off and braking, but not sure I want more weight on my wrists for the other 90% of the time I'm on the bike...

  4. The superpole seat is fantastic for me. The DP seat was good but for me the superpole is better.

I am 6 4" so might suit me more than others but no wrist issues etc. It feels strange initially because you sit differently but it soon feels natural.

  5. I have to give the superpole seat a thumbs up. I'm 6'1" though.

No more sliding into the tank and the extra 1" or so height makes all the difference for leg comfort.

  6. See the 'Rock & a hard place' thread too, I'm in the same dilemma, long legs, so would like the extra leg room, but where I haven't owned my 848 for long, my wrists are still 'adapting'.

  7. +1 for the Superpole seat. loads of grip and raises you up a bit so gives you more leg room especially if you have rearsets fitted :upyeah:

  8. Also, I wasn't sure about the look when i 1st put it on, but I like it now.

  9. What sort of money did you guys get the superpole seat for? I think they are around £160? I will have to do something as my ass does not like the stock seat plus I am 6ft 4" so my legs would like it too reading the posts.

  10. My delaer gave me 20% off I think. I paid £139.

  11. I had the Superpole seat and felt perched too high on the bike, felt unnatural to me do swapped with another member for the DP one, much better in my opinion but god did my arse hurt after a long run, felt like I'd been burgled !!

  12. I have had them all

Stock - rubbish slide all over the place
Superpole - Great seat but the OP is the same height as me & mirrors my experience, it places you higher and forward, if your tall its going to be great as it gives you room. If you're a short arse then its awful, sit too high and too far forward. Its just as grippy as the DP and was a lot more waterproof. I also liked the look as it covered the join where the panels met and offered some more protection
DP - The best option for me, same shape as stock but you stay put. Downside it can mark, its like a sponge and although mine is fine if tracking I'd imagine you'd wear it out, if that happened I'd get one of these covers Nelson posted about or get it redone with Neoprene.

    Just my experience

  13. Thanks guys,
Which dealer robarano? I would go for one at that money. I had a look online yesterday and the couple I could find were both £180!!

  14. M&S in Newcastle.

I don't know how you'll get on though. I'm pretty sure they won't post and it's a bit of a journey from you. I get a little off everything as I've been buying from them for years.

If it's any help, I'm sure the dealer margin on parts is 30%, talk to your local friendly parts guy, I'm sure they could do a good deal for you if there's still something in it for them. Have a walk in and talk to them, they must get people ringing around for the best price all the time, it's different when sombody is standing there in front of them.

Online prices are just going to be retail I would imagine.

    Shy kids get nothing

  15. Pity I told the dealer that is taking my bike today that it had the DP seat could have clicked a few quid !!

  16. Not keen on the DP seat ian, My mate has one on his 1098 and it seems very similar to stock but with a different cover that wears easily. I like the idea of an extra inch with the superpole!

  17. I had the DP one. TBH when it arrived I was sceptical whether it would be better than stock as it looked the same!
In fact it was much better.
Never quite managed to accept the cruiser look
    of the superpole one!
The DP one has changed since introduction, some of you may be referring to the early foam/sponge ones, they were rubbish!

  18. I have purchased a superpole seat from Redsail, will let you know my thoughts when it arrives. Thanks for the heads up Robarano.

  19. No problem, glad to help.

  20. Yes, I am liking the superpole seat! Gives me a little more leg room and stops me from sliding into the tank. A worthwhile upgrade for the taller rider.
