Hi everyone, new to forum after returning to Ducati ownership with a 2004 Supersport 1000DS. They don't appear to be that common? Even this forum is headed 600ss to 900ss. Were they unpopular in this country? Does anyone else have one? Looking forward to hearing form other folks.
Nice bike bearingman, yes they are quite rare, didn't sell well anywhere even though the factory put some nice suspension on them. The swingarm and shock are very desireable amongst us 900 owners,(I got them on my bike now:smile.
great bike I wanted one but couldn't find a nice one ended up with a 900ss and are very happy with it
One here if anyone is still after one? So what is wrong with 'em (apart from the immobiliser)? Anybody do a rack for 'em? Unless a better option comes up for luggage, it looks like I'll be fitting a trailer.
Probably the ultimate SS, but too little too late, outdated and too expensive by the time they arrived despite a price cut Ducati phased them out in 2005 so only a 2 year model run, that's why they are now very rare and very desirable.
Welcome, fabulous bike (any pictures?) with just the right amount of go for our UK roads let down by a godawful riding position.
Lovely, lovely bikes. I have the 900, which I've had from new, 12 years ago. For "real World" use, they have all the grunt you need. As standard, yes, maybe a little lazy turning but it's awesomely planted mid turn. Yes, smaller capacity multi-cylinder stuff will beat it in terms of pure performance numbers, but they don't have the same ability to put a huge smile on your face. I love the fact that it'll do the business, in a heart warming, old fashioned way. Pride of ownership and that beautiful desmo sound in abundance. And values are sure to rise in the not too distant future, making them a sound investment, too, especially at the daft, low prices they currently realise. It'll never happen, but I'd love to see a sharper, 1078 two valve air cooled machine, with sharper chassis and bang up to date brakes etc., all in a 160kg package. Maybe I'll just have to get a NCR or Pierobon, one day...........
Mine is for sale at £2250 if anyone's interested. Needs a bit of work depending on how perfect you want it. 13,178 on the clock. The biggest problems are tacho not working, needs both gauge pointers, no service history, 5AM ECU & only 1 black key. Previous owner looking for red key over this weekend.
