I have a 2013 848EVO. The rear suspension is far too hard for me, the bike is virtually unrideable on anything other than a very smooth road. I have backed off the pre-load on the rear shock to it's limit, I haven't attempted to measure the sag as I can feel that it will only be a few mm's anyway. I think I recall that the oem spring is a 90Nm. I have the old spring from my 749S, which was perfect for my weight. Could I swap my old 749S spring into my 848 ( I think the old spring is an 80Nm or something in that range.)? My weight is about 11 1/2 stone in my birthday suit. Also interested in 2nd hand TTX, or other solutions.
That's what I thought Paul. A rough measurement with the shock in situ shows that it seems to be the same dimensions, but I really need to remove the shock to confirm. ( hence my post asking if anyone has any abba stand lugs for sale)
I have some somewhere you could borrow. You'd need to come get them tho Think they are only 20 quid new
have you got fixed pegs, or can you wedge under the hanger? Two axle stands and done, its how I used to do mine
Recently changed out the rear shock on my 749 by swapping the footpegs from side to side and turning them upside down and using axle stands, haven't had a close look on the 848 yet. Was requesting 2nd hand lugs as I'm now down to my last 7 million and trying to economize!
Have you got a pair of step ladders??, if you have and they are tall enough to open and fit over the back of the bike (remove the seat unit) then just use some ratchet straps to hold the back of the bike up when you remove the rear paddock stand, you must have a front oaddock stand as well.
there was a TTX on fleabay yesterday for £550 ish i think. IIRC the spring was rated for 85 Kgs. ian
Hi Ian I believe I saw that, was it the one that was unused but upwrapped. I will now check it out and see if I can find the link. Found the one I was thinking of. Genuine Ducati 1098R Original New Ohlins Shock 848 1098 1198 | eBay I presume this would be good for my 848EVO?
hi john. didn't read all of it but yes, the photo showed it on top of some packing. TBH, i'd snap it up at that price. i paid more or less similar for mine and well happy with it. i bet it'll soon go.
by the way, if you get it and fancy fitting it yourself, (dead easy) let me know and i'll lend you the A frame i made for doing the job.
Set up wont help if spring way out, also the valving on the std units is limiting. If you cat ge sag in the right area now, you'd be wasting your money imho
Got the TTX on mine and if your lightish (I'm under 11st) the standard spring will still be too hard.Have wound mine right off and is better but still a little firm! Great shocks tho'
Lugs. Use suitably sized sockets as adapters. Add tape at abba end so they don't drop out. Works a treat.
Yep, realize that I need to get sag in the right area, that's why I asked about changing the spring from the too hard 90nm for my old 749 spring which was perfect for me. Just spoke to Sara Jordan who said that should be no problem. All I need to do is to remove the 848 shock and take it up there and they will change it for me as I don't have a spring compressor.
Just find a socket that fits both the stand ' ole and the frame 'ole. Tape into the abba stand so it doesn't drop out. Clamp up tight into the frame and off ya goes. Got me out of trub a few times.
