Suspension Set up on base model

  1. Hi,

Going to start having a play with the suspension settings to get more feel into the rear as it is bumping me out the seat too much.

I understand that you need to set sag as a first port of call before you go play with the rebound and compression. Seen a few videos on how to measure sag

So what sag figures should I be aiming for front and rear?

    Cheers

  2. Before you start changing settings, is your rear link set to F (flat) or P (progressive)? The Flat setting was way to stiff for me on the dealers demo with virtually no movement in rear suspension when jumping on board. I therefore specified the Progressive setting from the outset with all settings including tyre pressures as standard as a starting point - Surprisingly good feedback, compliant ride and very smooth on all but bad surfaces. See no need to change anything for road use at the moment.

As body weight apparently makes a big difference I am 82kg which should give you a starting point and don't forget that you must not use the Flat setting if carrying pillions.

    hope this helps

  3. Hi,

I am around the same weight and will not be carrying pillions. The rear is set to F and speaking to a few dealers they all seem to say to keep it on F and adjust settings around it?

  4. I tend to treat what "dealers" say with a large pinch of salt as its your feel that counts not theirs. The F setting is primarily for the track and that demands a totally different setup to road use - if the roads near me are anything to go by, that is. If the rear is too stiff so that its bouncing you out of the seat, I would seriously try the Progressive setting as I have done but each to their own

    hope this helps

  5. I test rode the cooking version yesterday and found the rear very hardtailish too.Is the S version any more complient? or is it the case that they all do that sir.I dear say that it could be dialled out with some sacrifices to the general trackability.

  6. A couple of weeks back I had my base changed to P and had the dealer soften up the front and rear slightly, made night and day difference to me - well worth it. I was finding the bike too stiff as default as i'm pretty light and was being bounced out of the seat too much.

  8. 3 clicks down on rear compression damping made a massive difference to my bikes handling. Im 100 odd kilos.
