Decided to play with the suspension on my recent 899. Not sure if ive interpreted the manual settings for road use correct as she feels a little wobbly Couple of questions. 1. When setting front preload it gives number of turns from fully open. Is this turned all the way clockwise to the furthest point ? 2. When it states number of turns from fully open i assume this then means full anticlockwise rotations ? 3. Anyone got a reccomended front and back list of settings for moderately fast road use with a bit of comfort, Preload & damping ? looking for a good comfy setting for blasting around roads rather than track. Cheers
Fully closed means clockwise fully open is anti-clockwise Comp and rebound Are set from full clockwise and preload is set from full anti clockwise For road use the standard manual sport settings but 2 turns more fornt preload 4 clicks per turn if I remember right (I'm 90kg kitted up and springs are too soft for me maybe) and 1 turn more rebound (slower rebound) and 1.5 turns less compression Rear rebound 10 clicks from fully in compression 1 turn out fully in. I've got a MCT reworked shock though but that's pretty much standard settings. Book says 2.5 turns out but shock only has 2 turns of adjustment... For track the setting in the manual are good but I went a click faster on rear rebound and half turn slower on front rebound. Front springs are a bit too soft my weight i think.
There lies the problem, the manual says for preload "turn hex adjuster starting from the fully open (clockwise) position ? 2 turns in from this and the fronts dipping right down on braking. Thank you very much for the comprehensive run down, really appreciated..
There are a few typos and contradictions in the manuals like it says 2.5 turns from full in for rear compression and there is only 2 turns of adjustment really The instruction on how to adjust rear brake leaver is a total joke too
Just spun the front rebound 2 full rotations clockwise, much firmer now thanks. I wondered about the back, like you say only gives you 2 turns. I'll see how she rides now, might even spend the £50 on a custom setup with me on the bike.
The rebound on the rear is the bottom adjuster and is clicks not turns. The compression is the small screw in the top and is measured in number of turns
Sent my OEM 899 shock to MCT start of this week and it's arrived back with me already - super quick service from Darren! I haven't fitted back on, and unlikely to get to ride it in anger until i take to the track in Spain early March, but really looking forward to seeing what/if difference there is. I never really got on with it before, never sure why, but many moons ago I ran a 996 that had been properly worked over and it was fab round the track, so fingers crossed...
