Hi, Could someone give advice on setting up the Öhlins (electronic) suspension on a Multistrada 1200S? I'm 80kg, and have a 100Nm spring. Made preload 'softer' (lower number) did help, but far from perfect when riding alone. I feel that the bike is too high on the back. Fully loaded (pillion+3bags) situation is much better, than with previous spring (85Nm)with factory settings. Would need values or advice for front and back suspension.
Ar right...theres loads of links on threads, even in the last few days. Search the forum, 'suspension' will probably bring up quite a few, and read what others are doing and find the links to set up websites. Btw pre load wont do a great deal to sort how it rides, only how it settles when you get on it. Or it shouldn't, if the springs, sag etc are correct. Its compression and rebound that sort the rest
electric suspension. 230V ac in the the uk, 220V ac in Euroland. I havent the foggiest in Eastern block Helsinki
Bradders: thanks I'll search on the posts. Sag is probably setup for a heavy guy- that's how I feel. Cranker V2: yes, expensive Nordic block.
Preload should only be adjusted to set the sag and ensure the suspension neither tops out or bottoms out. It won't affect the firmness of the suspension, it's the spring that does that.
Took some notes with 100Nm spring - Rear preload set to 1 (lowest). Rider sag: 50.0 (rear) 55.0 (front) Static sag: 24.0 (rear) 43.0 (front) What's Multistrada's default static sag? Thinking to alter next the Front forks preload
I've never really worried too much about the static sag as long as its not zero. Yours looks good to me.
Front sag should be more than the rear. Bear in mind that the Multi has more suspension travel than a sportsbike so sag will be a higher figure.
I 'think' only the rear is electronically set, the front is manual so if you set to one its only setting the rear. You may find you have soft setting on rear and factory mid on front. There seems a lot of difference in travel rear and front with rider. I'd try the rear at a mid setting and see what impact it has on rider sag
Bradders: yes front preload only manual. If I put higher preload on the back the sag in front, gets worse. Maybe the default front preload does not compensate the difference of the 100Nm vs 85Nm rear spring (?) when riding solo. I feel my bike's 'nose' is pointing a bit down. I plan to try a higher preload on the front- and see what happens.
Er...dont see how that is? They are not linked. So change the rear, should have no impact on the front I would guess unless its like a chopper so no weight sits across the front? I never had a crack at messing with the settings on these and may be they are just very different to a sports bike.
Raising the rear preload and thus the rear height of the bike will throw more weight to the front....thus the change in the front measurement. This is why the suspension needs to be balanced. Any reason you didn't change the front springs too? I can't imaging having different spring rates front and rear will do much to keep the bike balanced.
PK1: Current ride is by local Öhlins dealer, unfortunately unbalalanced result. Will change front springs, if front fork preload settings don't help (will know on Monday).
Changed Front forks Preload today (+2 full turns) at the dealer. First impression is very positive! Will ride around and do some measurements before posting more details.
Hi, Does anyone know where to find the Ohlins suspension settings for road/track for a Monster 1200S, I was also told to change the front fork springs *(heavier springs I assume), even though my bike has only 5k miles, is this needed?
