2009 1198s with race ECU remapped Recently when cranking I have found that if from cold it doesn't crank straight away and then resets ie goes screen blank and resets everything This resets clocks, trip and DTC It displays SW on the dash for short time Rides lumpy and DTC comes on intermittently Stop, key off, restart and reset DTC Once warmed up it then restarts fine and DTC stays fine Will check battery terminals - where are the earths on the 1198? Anyone had this and found the cause/cure?
Sounds like a bad earth somewhere, possibly in the starter circuit. Check the connections for corrosion and reseat them all.
I had a similar issue with my Hyper and it was the battery earth connector breaking away as the battery was loose! It was only the rubber boot holding it together. I'm thinking something could be loose and shorting or disconnecting when the bike shakes on start up. Think of what could be loose (especially if you've moved/replaced something) and make sure everything is tightened down. Also check connectors for corrosion. Unfortunately I think you'll have to look through most of the loom - starting with the starter circuit - as it could be anywhere.
Mine did this now and again but now it is every time I start the bike, which is very annoying as the clock and dtc always reset. It actually says 0004 SW; does anyone know exactly what the cause is? Bad earth according to above but what exactly does that mean? Does it mean the electrical system is not earthed correctly? Electrics is not my speciality.
Might be worth taking the ecu off and splitting it and cleaning the matting surfaces, the half that bolts it to the frame provides the earth for ecu via the matted surfaces that can corrode and cause intermittent problems. Kev
