SW Motech ABS Side Cases

  1. They look pretty good!

  2. I have spent ages looking for light weight luggage for my Multi 1200. First I hate soft luggage you have to strap to the bike but I also do not like wide heavy hard luggage OTT for my needs. Top boxes are useful but god their ugly and I have an issue with where they carry the weight behind the rear wheel and high up, and aerodynamically they are crap too. I have hard panniers on my FJR1300 very useful but they are heavy and wider than the front of the bike, which makes filtering harder. When I got my bike I declined the offer of free panniers in favour of a selection of extras which I was likely to use more often. I was not planning on touring on the Multi but its such a fun bike to ride that I have now changed my mind. For occasional use these SW-Motech panniers look good. The only thing I can see which I am not sure off is in the instructions they stipulate a max speed limit of 130 kph. This seems a bit conservative to me, any thoughts anyone ?

  3. Ducati panniers:

    Notes: Loading capacity = 10 Kg per pannier/topcase. Max.speed = 180 Km/h with panniers and/or topcase mounted.

130kph does seem rather low.....especially as they appear to be smaller than the Ducati ones. Something to do with the mounting system / mounting points maybe. Might be worth querying with SWM in case it's a typo?

  4. I had this issue with the TDM, Yamaha claimed 5kg max in each pannier! Seems they quote these figures to prevent litigation should overloaded luggage be deemed responsible for an accident. I guess this is the purpose of the speed restriction.

  5. This is the same type of bags that are factory fitted on Hyperstrada and Diavel Strada. SW-Motech make them for Ducati:upyeah:

  6. Had a chance today to check out the Aero Cases look pretty good to me. Well made, slim and very light weight. Have sent an email regards speed limitation (thank you AndyW) lets see if they reply, but I'm not really that concerned, I think they are covering their corporate arse.
SW-Motech 2014 Catalog can be downloaded from here if anybody is interested: SW-MOTECH & BAGS-CONNECTION

  7. So is that 31 litres per bag or a total for both? Not clear from what I can see?

  8. 31 litres / 12.5 kg load for each pannier. Interestingly in the 2014 catalog it states 25 litres for each case.

  9. I bought a set for mine a couple of years ago (although I have not actually used them on a trip).

They are the same as those used as OE on other Ducati models (as someone else said) and they are pretty good.
Look better than the OE MTS ones, cost less, and they are bigger inside too.

Just be aware that the waterproofing comes from putting your stuff in a dry bag inside (supplied).

The fittings that stay on the bike are completely unobtrusive and the whole lot is very well made (as it should be for the price they charge).
