1200 Sw-motech Crash Bars Installed ...

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by john clelland, Jun 5, 2021.

  1. just installed a set of SW-Motech crash bars on my friend's 2015 Multi 1200s (yes, the 1200s that I rode down from Seattle, WA to California a few weeks ago).

what a PITA install that was.

I forgot how difficult it is to align frame bolts when they have been removed ... a lot of wrestling with the engine and frame to get the bolts to align.

all installed, blue loctited, and torqued to specs.

  2. Always prop the engine up before removing any bolts.

  3. And take them off again. Sorry, I'll get my coat. X

  4. I had no issues. I used the new fixing to knock the old one out ;) I am good like that :D

  5. the issue I ran into was not on the engine bolt ... it was on the subframe to frame bolt.

  6. that did not work when trying to install the new/longer subframe to frame bolts.

and as the engine bolt stays in place until it is pushed out by the new engine bolt, probing the engine was not required for that either ... so the entire install was easier/better with no engine propping, and not using the center/centre stand.
