1200 DVT Sw Motech Evo Carrier And Standard Ducati Topbox Mount

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by DavidPRoberts, Feb 21, 2024.

  1. Good Morning
Hoping someone may have experience of fitting an SW Motech Evo Pannier frame to a Multi that already has the standard top box mount.
It looks like one of the fitting points will be shared and just wondered if anyone had fitted to know what modifications if any had to be made?
Just being lazy and trying to avoid unnecessary work when I could be out riding the beast :p

  2. Hi Johnny many thanks for that, I already have the topbox mounting, an OEM Ducati one which has bars that go under and mount below the seat, not just on the hand grips, the SW Motech pannier rails use the same fixing points, I'm just hoping someone has fitted a similar arrangement.....I'm crap at IT otherwise I'd try to take photos and show the predicament

  3. Looked into this a few months back and from memory SW Motech specifically state racks are incompatible with OEM rails - I think what Johnny was saying is the solution on the basis you can keep a Givi top box (I.e SWM rails and Givi adapter plate). I am sure there was a set of panniers for sale on here recently that had this setup, so the OP for that sale might be able to confirm with certainty, if you want to look it up.

Otherwise, I think the Givi pannier racks are compatible with the OEM top box mount, but are discontinued so are becoming scarce.

Eventually I gave up - OEM top box and Kriega bags on pillion = problem solved for me, accepting that isn’t right for everyone.

edit: post here was pro racks but same issue: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threa...iers-proside-carrier-and-top-case-rack.98613/

  4. Many thanks for that, I think I may have gone through this pain last year when I first had the bike, Ducati were less than helpful and eventually I realised the sw motech rails would not fit with the topbox mounts......having said that I may look at fitting to see if all that is needed is some spacers ....or just abandon the topbox and just use panniers, decisions decisions.......
Out of interest do you have a special mount for the kriega bags to hang over the seat, or are they just sat on the seat and secured with straps?
I have been using the ducati boxes that came with the bike but there shape makes it difficult to make use of all the space, and had resorted to using a lomo bag on the pillion seat, but it is a pain getting on and off the bike

  5. No special mounts to go over the seat but I do use the “permanent” loops that Kriega sell fitted to the subframe under the seat and leave them sticking out the side as I have the enduro multistrada. It means I can sit a us20 on the pillion, and in theory attach two us10’s to the sides, but haven’t needed that much luggage….yet.
