I've currently got the Ducati Zumo 220 but also use a Garmin Montana 600 on my dirt bike. I much prefer the Monatana 600 to the Zumo. It's a simple job swapping the brackets BUT the wiring is different so I can't use the standard Zumo wiring which just plugged into the loom Electrics aren't my favourite subject and sure as hell don't want to upset the canbus signals. The Montana cradle comes with wiring without any connectors on the end. It may just be a case of fitting the same connector as the Zumo to the end of the Montana wiring. If you've got a different sat nav how and where have you wired it up and any problems? Thanks
I use a zumo 660 and I just took the fly cable off the Ducati item and soldered it on to my Zumo's lead - easy to do and a nice neat solution. I think there's a step-by-step guide on Andy W's info pages... Yup - here you go; Motorcycle Info Pages - 'How to' & FAQs > MTS1200 GPS Mount Install
Either solder your Sat nav loom onto existing wiring after cutting off end, or use a waterproof connector to allow removal or just normal crimps.
I just soldered my Tom Tom Rider2 powered lead into the Ducati OEM tail-leads that go to the satnav / aux white plug. Used heat shrink sleeving to make it nice and safe. You only have to unbolt the lefthand middle small black cover to get to the socket and plug (2 bolts) and the top fuse box black cover (4 bolts) so that you can feed the new lead down from the handlebars. I followed the existing loom wiring and cable tied the Tom Tom lead to it.
BDG, there is a little white plug for the satnav under the left side of the tank. You have a choice, you can either modify your existing 220 lead so you can plug in either, or create a new lead. If your stuck I can supply you a lead with the correct plug to fit the bikes loom, made to any length. If you want me to assit in modifying anything just give me a shout. I'm not local, but happy to do it if you cover postage. alternatively I am also happy to help via email if I can. send me a pm mate. Cheers, John.
Many thanks John om on it's way. I'd prefer to geta new end on the Monatana fitting as want to keep the Zumo wiring intact just in case i want to use it again or dell it.
G'Day John,I am in the same boat, swapping a Garmin Zumo 220 for a Garmin Montana 600, where to get the plug that goes into the Ducati MTS-PP 2012 wiring harness? Rather cut and modify the Garmin Rugged Mount Leads and keep the Ducati MTS wiring harness intact. Thanks for any feedback, much appreciated and just in case you can supply leads and / or plugs, well I got PayPal...???Have a nice weekend!ps: checked around over here in China but no luck with them plugs, quite sure they are made here but as with everything, hard to find and most probably only for export.....
I,m also l looking at fitting either. Gardin 220 or a Tom Tom, regarding the loom as show in the link for wiring the sat nav to, is this a 12 v supply and if so do you need a converter to 5v ?
Now that's timing/fate. I'm interested in a lead-plug to go from canbus satnav thing to my satnav. I've been using a car Nuvi satnav and am powering it from a fused lead from one of the output sockets under the seat. (12v down to 5v inline). My problem over a blast to Bristol and back was the satnav turning off while riding along in slow traffic with the revs below 3000. Is it a case of the output dropping below 5v when the revs drop this low? Bit annoying when you need it most and the thing dies on you
