999 Swing arm conversion

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by chase, Mar 31, 2014.

  1. Hi All
I have an 04 999s on which i am going to replace the grey swing arm with th 05 black fabricated item .
It is a straight swap but ................. on the grey arm the speedo sensor cable and rear brake hose are fixed to the underside of the swinging arm . The black item appears to have the bolt holes on the top .
Is this where the cable and hose fit or am i misguided ?
    Advice /pictures appreciated ..

  2. I had to change the exhaust link pipe, thats all

  3. I wouldnt bother.

Grey swingarm means your options are much more plentiful when it comes to exhausts.

  4. Having just taken a black one off, the cable and hose are fixed above with P clips.

  5. Well i hope what exhaust on mine will be ok !
I prefer the look of it

  6. Er, no - the horizontal cylinder exhaust pipe from a grey swingarm model wont fit the black swingarm unless persuaded with a hammer.

  7. I have some sort of full termi system !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Then I would leave it alone and save yourself loads of grief.

Dont get me wrong, it can be modified just fine but its not something I would want to do.

  9. Well thats the swing arm fitted , there doesnt appear to be any issues particularly with exhaust clearances ect .in fact the exhaust had been rubbing on the previous swing arm .
Thanks to everyone for their help , Waggy tree for the hugger and Ian for the drawings for the chain tensioner blocks, i got these made in stainless , Ian if you want my spare set let me know .
I have test ridden and all clearances apper to be ok .

  10. Ha!

You have the rare banana termi system for the black swingarm!

  11. Clearance on a 57mm system is pretty tight on a black swinger anyway. I think you have got away with it!
    Nice one!

  13. The only issue i have is as you rightly point out , the swinger fouls the L H S fairing .
Whats special about the exhaust system ?

  14. Probably nothing in that you appear to have a asymmetric system and the oval pipe cleared the swingarm. My full 57mm system was a pain and didn't clear the sump nor the swing arm.

  15. That's not an asymmetric system.

  16. F_E what is asymetric system Please enlighten me .On my bike the round header pipes are 56 mm o d.
    P.S. The 999 isnt ugly .

  17. I never said it was, well not recently. I have/had 3x749's and 1x999
Asymmetric ones are where the rear cylinder pipe come out from the engine and loops down slightly before going into the silencer.

It is the style of the standard system.

  18. Don't forget to paint the frame red, the rear frame satin black and the wheels gloss black ;)

  19. Silver frames are faster , sorry to let you down .
