916 Swing Arm Drift

  1. I’m hoping to remove the swing arm bolt on my 916 so reading the horror stories I’ve been blasting it with plus gas on a daily basis for a few weeks now. I’ve loosened the bolt and I can drive the shaft back and fourth now with ease so hopefully it’s let go. Anyway would any of you gents have one of these for sale. I took the pic from another thread on here. Or could anyone here make one up for me. IMG_5788.jpeg

  2. If the pívot is moving freely, you won’t need a drift. Just use a 1/2” square drive to tap it out

  3. I just removed mine. Just a aluminium bar without the thread worked well. Just turned the end down so it will fit inside the thread and has a shoulder the bear on the spindle. If you need one, I can make it for you.

  4. Thanks petsmith. I’ll see if it comes out easy first. Just one more thing. I’ve the bike on a rear paddock stand. Do I need to support anything or can I just take the pivot out regrease and put it back in.

  5. I suggest supporting the frame from above (straps/rope/engine hoist/whatever)...

  6. You can knock the swing arm pívot out with it on the rear stand. The swing arm is still held in place with the spacer sleeves. It can’t fall out.

  7. Thanks guys I used a 13mm deep socket on a long extension bar and tapped it out. It came out very easy thankfully. I did put my trolly jack under the engine as a precaution but it didn’t really need it. Next question is torque is it 70/75Nm

  8. 73Nm greased up.
