848 Swingarm Removal!

  1. I'm looking to remove my SWINGARM in the winter months to have it powder coated black. Is it simple enough to remove/refit & will I need any special tools? Also will it need any set ups done when I refit it? Cheers

  2. I've not removed an 848 swinging arm, but have on a few other bikes in my youth... Expect it to be seized; and you may have to hack saw through the main bolt...

Suspension will be fine so long as you recall the settings as they are now and put them back. However, might be a good time to check suspension; get it serviced, check spring weight is right for your weight etc etc whilst the back end is in bits...

  4. I removed my 748 one with a grinder after weeks of penetration fluid and smacking with a big hammer failed... It will now be removed and greased yearly. Good luck!:upyeah:

  5. very easy to wreck swing arms and engine cases doing this.
I would have thought the newer bikes wouldn't be seized,,,Maybe..:Nailbiting:

  6. if only

  7. yea it damaged the swing arm a lil... I cut it to pieces! tried getting a hack saw blade to the pivot shaft but found it impossible. My hammer was slightly bigger than that one too..:D

  8. Same here mine is removed and greased ever year, takes five minutes.
