Swiss Speeding Letter

Discussion in 'Touring' started by flatstick959, Jun 30, 2016.

  1. I just got a letter saying My car was speeding in Switzerland in July of last year

The letter requests details of who was driving the car so they don't have to investigate further.

What is the best way to deal with his?

Can I be persued for this in the UK for this?

What if I just choose never to go back to Switzerland?

    Thanks

  2. Ignore it, had 2 from Spain a couple of years ago & nothing ever happened.
My wife is Spanish & has an uncle in the police force there who gave me the advice!
Think there is much red tape / expense involved to recover costs.

  3. Ok cheers

Switzerland are pretty servere with motoring offences though.

Just want to be sure they can't enforce a fine over here.

  11. If you ignore it I would not go back for a while. If they nick you again or pick you up on number plate recon they will throw the book at you. Some of the Swiss traffic cops were ex gestapo but thrown out for cruelty

  12. I believe that the EU law changed so that it made it easier for member states to pursue a fine abroad. However, Switzerland obvously isn't in the EU (and we won't be for much longer - whoo hoo!), so I'm not sure how it works with them?

  13. If they have sent you a letter then they must have access to the DVLA database. Just hope that that access is not through some agreement with the UK plods.

  14. When the UK leaves the EU I can come over on my 848 with my small French number plate and speed past all of your speed cameras. You can send me the fines and I'll wipe my arse with them.

  15. Ask @gliddofglood on here, he works for the Swiss Speeding Agency in view of prosecuting UK citizens for speeding violations while in Switzerland, he should know :)

  16. I've had two fines for speeding in Ireland and ignored both on the recommendation of my brother in law who was in the guards. If I had really been taking the piss they would have arrested me there and then, Apparently it's too much faff and red tape to pursue for lesser motoring offences.

  17. Had many, also been flashed more times than I can remember. Once in France at over 150 leptons.

    Never heard anything.

Dvla don't currently share drivers details abroad.

  18. :)
