Having just bought a 1200 Multi, 2014, I need to buy a tank bag. I am old school and like using a map while touring so I need a decent map pocket. I have used the Givi enduro tank bag EA110 on another bike so would like something like this and of a similar size. I don't like the ring that fits to the tank filler but realise this is probably the only way to fix it without straps or a permanent base like the Bagster. Please let me know what make and models might be suitable.
The tank ring is the way to go, saves paint getting scratched and removes in seconds for fuel up, just make sure the bank is the right size, if too long it can interfere with your control.
I have a Held bag with map pocket. Held on by velcro pad, secured to the seat retaining bolts and a strap under the headstock. Has done about 50k miles with me and is simple to take off and remove overnight. Expands to about 5l and is enough for a drink, hi viz vest, mobile and chain lube etc.
Thanks for your reply. I have also read another post that you started that offers more advice - which one did you go for?
The givi tank ring and if i remember correctly its the XS307, you can adjust the locking ring on the bottom of the bag to site the bag where you want it to sit on the tank, works for me
Thanks, I think that size will probably do for me. Do you have any photos of the bag on the bike and what the tank ring looks like?
All three bikes including 1260 now have givi ring moved from swmotech the ring is pretty unobstrusive and quick but you can’t big bags magnetic bags can wipe your cards ! As I found out
Thanks but I can't use a magnetic tank bag anyway although I have never had a problem with previous bikes! What made you change from SW Motec to Givi?
Givi 308 on mine, I also have the small Ducati urban pack one for day trips I also had a 307 which was a bit smaller but didn’t have the little pocket at the front which I prefer for toll tickets etc
To be honest that's the only bit that's putting me off. However, the options are a strap on design that might damage the tank, even if I use a piece of non-slip matting like I normally do. Will have to get to a bike shop to have a look.
Thanks for the photos, the 308 looks a great fit - is that the XS308 enduro tank bag? Nice bike's too! Not having seen these on a bike, do they actually touch the tank or are they supposed to float above it?
Not sure, but I think so. It just says XS 308 20 litre. They don’t actually touch the tank as the have a stiff base, you can adjust the mount forwards and backwards to suit.
An update... I went for the SW Motec Trial Pro tank bag in the end for two reasons: 1) the tank ring is smaller and I think it looks better 2) I bought the new Pro bag with the magnetic locking feature that is really good I went for the Trial that they recommend for my bike and used it yesterday. It fits really well to the tank and personally, I think it is excellent. The magnetic locking feature makes it so quick and easy to attach. The Pro has a ratchet fitting underneath so you can adjust the position of the clamp ring to make sure the tank bag is correctly fitted front to back - none of the previous drilling and bolting. This also makes it better for use on another bike. The Pro has the option of a map (tablet) pocket that attaches to the Molle straps on the top. Ideal for me to use for a paper map and remove it when its non needed. Photos below to illustrate.
