Tank Bag

  1. Anyone got any experience of these tank bags for the Multi: SW Motech - Engage, Tial or Daypack. My main aim is as large a map pocket as possible rather than storage. I'm told all three will fit the Multi 1200.

  2. I spent quite a lot of time searching for the best tank bag - in the end I went for the 'quick-lok' from SW Motech with the 'City' bag. I have the Ducati sat-nav and needed a bag that did not obscure this and the City bag works really well. It is a little bigger than the 'Engage' and fits the tank well. Neither of the bags have a map pocket but you can get one as an optional extra - fits over the bag reasonably well and is certainly large enough.
I went to 'Winding Roads' near Donnington Park race course and they were really helpful. Good website if you search for it.

  3. I've got the City too. Works really well but you need to buy the map pocket separately. I have the map pocket too and because its a separate item its much easier to get the map in and out and you can remove it of you don't need it.

Only problem i have had with the map pocket is occasional glare from the sun when its at its highest.

  4. Both fitted here. You wouldnt know the bag is fitted once riding.

  5. I have one on my 1098. Don't know what the bag is called its small has a pocket in the lid part takes a mobile and has a window so could put a sat nav In spot on for carrying all those personal little things

  6. This is the one I've got also. Really good tank bag. I posted a couple of photos of it on a previous thread which you can see here:http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/tank-bags-11612/#post173321

  7. +1 for Givi

  8. +2 for Givi 307. Just did Barcelona and back with my new one and very pleased I am. A bit tight for open maps but works ok with folded and handwritten directions as a check can be seen ok. The quick loc feature works really well.

  9. SW Motech Engage plus separate map cover (also SWM) for me.

    Perfick...

  10. I have the SW Motech Evo bags both Sport & Day Pack.

The Sport bag (14-21 litres) is good if your away for 1 or 2 nights. The Day Pack (5-9 litres) it's ok if your out for a days runs out. However the drawback is that it doesn't have a clear top for map reading or written routes. Whereas the Sport Bag does.

  11. On reading this thread and having just returned from a 2 week trip, I have just ordered the Givi XS307 (£104 with ring - seems an ok price?) as I found that having stuff in my jacket was a pain (bunches of keys and money/passport that got wet) and things in the top-box such as my camera, just didn't get used? An added bonus is that I won't need to re-paint the fuel filler that I butchered ;-)

  12. I did a comparison some time ago (2010) which I think is posted over on ashonbikes. I posted pictures too for comparison.

I use the XL Trial because it had the best integrated map pocket and fits the tank well. It is a big bag though. Works great for trips, probably less so for a day bag.
I did have a couple of others too, engage and a bigger version of engage. Sold them on to mates as I prefered the Trial for what I needed. I agree with comments above, that the engage with the map pocket accessory works great too. The only down side I saw with the engage was the restricted openning.

If your going to buy one now I would recommend getting the evo style mounting, as it is far thinner and looks a lot better imo.

  13. XL307 came today, nice bag and the quick lock works a treat - shame the "headstock" strap isn't detachable though, no chance of threading it through the mess that is the Multi front end, so it just sort of dangles around the filler cap under the bag.

Fitting the cap ring only takes 2 minutes according to the carton - try 2 hours! I dropped one of the bolts and it fell between the R/H air box intake and the frame - stripped down some of the fairing for better access, but ultimately I just got the end of the thread with the ends of my fingers, but the head was jammed - 20 mins of wiggling and swearing and it came free the #%^*ing thing!!!

Had to adjust fully rearward to avoid satnav, but seems a comfy fit, can't wait to try it out in anger now. Oh and the only bit of the fuel cap ring on show, is the bit I scratched to bits on my last holiday - but at least I can't see it with the bag on ;-)

  14. I just cut that bit off with a stanley knife!

  15. That's what I was thinking, but what with the bolt chase bollox, I decided to ponder it awhile, plus I couldn't bring myself to do it to an unused, brand new bag. Maybe once it has pissed me right off on a couple of trips, I may be a bit keener to get the Stanley out ;-)

  16. Can anyone recommend a small waterproof tank bag with a map reader for the multi 1200?
