Can anyone tell me how to get the tank pad off my 900ss? I want to replace it with a carbon one but I don't want to damage the tank getting the original off
Sort of what she said..... ....but depending on which type of pad, you might find the tank paint is already damaged, so if you can smell petrol don't get too close with the hairdryer....try leaving in the sun instead. AL
Is it a an SSie? If so then very gently with some heat as suggested, its quite easy to take the paint off (not too much of an issue if you are covering it again with a tank pad of similar size I suppose). But you will also have to hacksaw off the little metal 'button' that sticks out from the tanks and is used to centre the original padded tank pad. Well worth it though, I think it improves the look of the bike loads. Good luck.
Yes it's a 900ie. It's going to have to wait a few days now, it's going for a valve clearance check tomorrow so I'll have a go when it comes back
