Taxing or Declaring sorn? Stolen bike

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by JC749, Aug 11, 2013.

  1. I had a bike nicked last Tuesday night and the tax reminder landed the next day.

As I am still the registered keeper I take it I should just declare the thing SORN?

Im going to ask at the local post office as I have to tax the car too (double kick in the nuts) but was just wondering if anyone has come across this before.

    Cheers

  2. As it wont cost anything I would. DVLA not known for their common sense

  3. Im sure your not wrong there!!!

  4. You don't do either. If you ring the local DVLA office and tell them that the bike has been stolen, they will send you a form to fill in.
You send it back to them and that's it. If you get the bike back, you then just tax it as normal.

  5. Cheers, will look into it tomorrow

  6. I need to claim to tax back for my stolen ninja. Ive been waiting for the insurance letter confirming its no longer mine before I contacted the DVLA. I certainly wouldn't worry about getting the tax yet. It could be a way the bike gets stopped and therefore you get it back....maybe

  7. Hmm. The tax is up at the end of the month so if the dvla hang about etc theres a problem as they wont hang around in sending me a fine for not taxing or declaring sorn.
