Having done the Ron haslam race school a number of times now I've finally decised to book myself onto a track day at Silverstone in Aug using my own 848. The noise limit for the day is 102db so wondered if I'm going to need to put in the db killers on the Termis? Does anyone know what the approx noise is of an 848 with Termis?
I'm at brands on my 848 on Monday, I can let you know what mine goes through noise testing at. I am expecting to need baffles even at 105db.
Thanks, that would be really helpful. I'm still a little unclear if the limit is 102db static or as I ride past limit but would rather be comfortably under the limit even if it does mean I have to sacrifice the awesome sound of un baffled Termi's
It is static, you have to have your bike noise tested before you are allowed out on circuit. I think the correct method for testing is at 1m from the exhaust tip and at 45degs, but every circuit does it slightly different.
Wrong, silverstone is a ride-by. Termis, just cans should be fine, with or without baffles. I've been round with full system minus baffles fine. Every day is different though! static testing is a completely different kettle of fish though. Depends on so many different factors, the knob jockey doing the testing for one.
I did Pembrey on my 1098. I put the baffles in for a static test and the limit was 105db and it was on 105db :biggrin: Like peeps have said it all depends on the weather if it's cold or hot etc. Get you bike warmed through before the test so the zorsts are warm as it should be slightly better than from cold. My opinion but I'm sure other people will have their opinions :wink:
Sounds like a bit of a gamble based on who's testing it then. may pack the baffles just in case but hopefully won't need to fit them though. it'll be interesting to find out how Ginger gets on at Brands on Monday.
Yep definitely worth taking them, try and get away with it without them. But at least you will have them there just in case. You don't want to turn up and not be aloud on track
If I remember correctly, if you get pulled at sliverstone, then say 'I'll put my baffles in' they stop you riding anyway. 1. For not putting them in in the first place knowing you might be too loud. 2. For setting the meter off, sending a alert to the council, putting the day in jeopardy. They warn you about this in the briefing. Their control centre is awesome. Even if a group of you go past the sensor, by some witchcraft they somehow ID the bike that was too loud with photographic evidence. If in doubt put them in. Slip-ons with baffles will be fine.
My 748R was 103 with Termi's and no baffles and 99 with them, so it's not worth gambling on not using them by the look of it. Better safe than sorry. I am going to repack mine with Acousta-fil packing to see if that helps. Has anyone done the same or tried it?
I'm not expecting to be able to get on track with my 848 on Monday, the baffles I ordered have not turned up, I'm running a full termi system with the slash cut cans and it does seem rather bloody loud. Fingers crossed bloody loud is 105db, if not its back to the GSXR.
I think twins actually sound louder than they actually are. My girlfriends SV sounds a lot louder than my GSXR but goes through noise testing at the same db level. So fingers crossed my duke will pass
it's heading that direction but just don't like the idea of ruining the sound of my 848 with un baffled Termi's.
