Termi "sticker" removal

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by DoctorW, Nov 2, 2012.

  1. Hi. Not really a "technical"?, more cleaning / maintainance.
The termi stickers on my carbon exhausts are a little bit tatty and thinking of removing them - will these come off with a little bit of warming and peel them away like a tank pad, or will this damage the surface below?
Thanks for any advice / opinion.
    Regards,

    Andrew.

  2. Hello,i'm sure you have removed them by now but just in case you haven't.. a hairdryer to heat them up for a few minutes, gentle heat! then they will peel right off! good luck.

  3. A hair dryer to warm it up??

    Ok Vidal

Is it just me.....or does anyone else's exhaust get hot when the engine has been running?

  4. Nope - not on the carbon cans it doesn't, just lightly warm...

The hairdryer optionis to make the adhesive more fluid so the sticker removes more easily but tbh you can pick it off regardless and clean the area up with a soft cloth and some white spirit...

  5. Assuming you are going to replace them make sure you buy the foil backed type these deflect heat

  6. Well my carbon termi's get hotter than any hair dryer.....not as hot as my hot air gun that I use when I'm vinyl wrapping or removing vinyl sign writing, but hotter than a hair dryer.

The Termi sticker as pointed out is foil backed to avoid it falling off with the heat.

PS don't use white spirit on the carbon.....it no like it!

  7. Mine certainly don't - guess it depends which termis you have! White spirit on the gum residue is fine too on carbon or whatever as long a you clean it up afterwards, not a problem unless you like ebay vietnamese carbon goodies LOL. Of course if the decals are meant for exhausts they'd be foil as you say Anth but normal vinyl works nicely on carbon as long as they're not red hot and none of mine have ever been. Now then if you're talking about the baking effect of a vnyl sticker on a D16RR belly pan, you will need a lump hammer and a cold chisel ;-)

  8. Hi there.
As mentioned above, stickers now off. Not gonna replace as looks fine without them. Not even ridden the thing yet, but have spent above 12 hours (evenings stuck in the garage) cleaning the crud off - don't think it had been cleaned in months (years? lol), but underneath the muck, it's in fair shape and a bit of work on the "headlamp bucket" (new, but accurate description to me) should bring the bike back into pretty good fettle.
    Thanks for replies,

    Andrew.

  9. I have old Shape oval termi's on a full system on an 848....

Tell me more about where I can get "Vietnamese carbon Termi's" on eBay.....I'll buy a shed load and flog them on and make a mint....the welding and finish can't be any worse

I wouldn't use white spirit on any lacquered surface let alone the un lacquered Termi's....but I suppose it's down do how fussy you are.

Unfortunately I've never wrapped any part of a Desmo or sign written on it let alone tried to remove it from one :frown:
