Hi all, My dealer is got hold of a Termi system (half) for my06 749. He said that a flash of the ECU is needed or else the bike would behave odd. This flash costs 200£. Is this needed? Anyone done it without ECU change or flash and just the can and pipe change? Grtz
If you change the exhaust (and also the air filter as you want more air in as well as out!) then you need to change the fuelling to suit. The only way you can do this on your bike is through either an ECU reflash for the correct fuel map, or to add a Power Commander and adjust the fuel map that way. Yes, your bike will run bad if you don't do it; in fact it will run hot as it will run lean and you could potentially overheat the engine and hole a piston. Also, £200 is on the expensive side as there are places that will do it cheaper, and also speak to @chrisw on here nicely and he may do it for you!
Yep I put a half system on my 2004 749R and tried to run it as it was. Fine to start with but started to run a bit rough now and again, almost like a misfire, as well as struggling to start from cold sometimes. Backfires waking the baby at seven in the morning doesn't go down too well. Got mine into Rich at louigi moto/CJS and had the DP map put onto the standard ECU. Running sweet now so I'd say it needs doing.
Alright, thanks guys! Although ChrisW's help would be appreciated, I live in Belgium, so that is going to be hard. Grtz
You should be able to post him your ECU and have him reflash it with the DP map. You'll be without the bike for a week or so, but better than running it with the wrong map?
Hi Tom When I got my termis for my HM796,they came with a racing ECU,so it was just a swap-over.I'd definitely recommend someone to flash the ECU,there are some that advertise doing this by post.....But you really need someone who has a dyno to set it up correctly,I know a few people over here, but not where you live unfortunately.Hope you get it sorted
Hey JenC Thanks. I called my dealer and he explained what needed to be done. He said the 200£ is the Flash of the ECU and testing on a Dyno. So i guess that is not too crazy a price. Grtz, Tom
You must do this. The performance isn't possible with the new exhaust if you don't get the fuel air mix ratio correct. Pointless putting on the termi otherwise. Swapping the ecu's over isn't difficult just takes time and patience.
Got around to testing the bike yesterday after it's return from the remapping and I must say that it is a world of difference. The power delivery is much more linear and in the mid range it rides much smoother. From the print out it also showed a max 118BHP, so that could only be a plus. And as an added bonus there is musch less vibration on the handle bars now!
