Termis for Monster?

  1. HI all, thinking of purchasing a Monster 696/796 and was wondering if Termis are available off the shelf for this type of bike.Ive got Termis on my 998+ecu change both of which were on the bike when I bought it 2 years ago.If they are, what sort of cost are we talking about and I assume the ECU would require changing at the same time. The other query regards seat height, being approx 5' 6 inches short would there be an issue regarding reaching the floor as although the 796 has the lovely single sided swing arm,it is approx 30mm taller than the 696,ie 770mm versus 800mm,welcome any info/reply,Ta

  2. I had a M1100 and installed the carbon termi's, cost about £1200 including the ECU and air filter. Your dealer will be able to sort it out for you.

  3. I have Termi's on my 796, fitted at it's first service by my dealer. I think they were around £1000- 1200. I am just under 5'6 and had the rear shock wound in a tad, but its fine with getting the toes down to the ground, my only probem is I do not have enough push to get the bike rolling backwards out of a parking space etc when I am on it, so I push it out instead! I came off a 696 and had no problems with the difference.

Personally I would just go straight for the 796, a far nice bike all round. I love mine, though sadly have hardly been out on him this year at all.

  4. I have carbon termis on my 1100evo, and have the lower seat fitted which reduced the seat height to approx 800mm. Also has bar riser fitted to reduce arm stretching. So far so good and I'm vertically challenged (same height as canaryman) too. You could also wear riding shoe with slightly thicker sole to ensure both feet firmly on the ground.

The standard safety pack (ABS + DTC) somehow makes me feel safer on the road and inspired confidence, although I never ride fast enough to trigger them even at the safest setting.

  5. Termis are still readily available thru your dealer. On the seat height, as well as the lower seat, you can also use the shock mount off the 696 to lower ithe bike a little. I've just gone the other way lifting my 696 with the 1100 mount. Tbh, if you're riding a 998, then none of the monsters will give you a problem.

  6. +1.

It is only after the termis are fitted that I realised the bike is making the same kind of impressive noise which all those Ducatis I used to came across over the years - in short, the unmistakable classic Ducati soundtrack.

I would describe the noise as thunderous at low revs- can't resist blipping the throttle sometimes

  7. Termis are good but they are having quality issues, especially the welding, see the thread in general discussion ( dated 24th dec 'how good are termis' ) for that king of money they should be tiptop quality. I have seen lots of Arrow Exhausts on Dukes and the build quality looks far better, infact the ones on Ducangels bike in the bike of the year competition look stunning, IMHO far better than termis.

  8. I have the termi full system on my Monster 796. Cost far too much, best part of £2000. I have no issues with build quality. They look great, bike feels quicker, top speed has gone up and, I don't burn my leg when filling up with petrol. But I have to admit they are too loud; most of the time I have the baffles in so the neighbours don't linch me :-(

  9. I received no complaints so far from neighbours and carry on with my baffleless termi full system, and my next door neighbour rightly said: "It's living and your are gone in seconds"
