Test rode the GT today

  1. Thinking of the next couple years biking and some good deals out there at the mo, so wandered one 848 up to Snells and had a crack..

*Not as tall as I'd thought could easily manage riding in traffic etc, no more planning than I have to now, altho getting on and off bit more difficult than my bike
*Easy to navigate the modes, even on the fly
*Throttle seemed smooth and easy, none of the snatchiness I've heard about
*couldn't tell much difference between sports and touring mode
*easy to ride and found pretty comfy for the 45 mins I rode it, whereas on my DR and the old Numpty I would have had some lower back painby then
*heres the surprise; no where near the power I expected, maybe because it was so smooth but back to back my Evo accelerates harder and faster and you'd think had a power advantage and most surprisingly the numpty didn't have the 60mph top gear roll on grunt I expected. Tbh was a bit disappointed by that

Challenge is could I live with it as my only bike? Toughie, as the Evo does nearly everything so well and is fun to ride where the Numpty seems extremely efficient and functional.

    Decisions decisions...

  2. 6th gear is a high overdrive, and won't pull below 70. Not surprised there isn't any 'top gear roll on grunt' at 60mph. At 60 you should be in 5th, or 4th.

  3. As Pete said, 6th is overdrive. I rarely use more than 4th, myself. Get the Multi - your knees and back will thank you for it ;)

  4. Its because it was the GT,everyone knows the red ones are much faster.

  5. Its tempting tho as I know I would just go into the garage with bike jeans and jacket and go for a ride to do stuff like take my phone back for example, where I'd never take the 848 for that stuff. Equally be happy to start doing big rides and touring, not that I can't do it on my bike but the fun is riding at warp factor 5 minimum rather than bimbling along at 80 or 90 tops

Its tempting but tbh not enough to chop in my Evo and dont think I can afford both, especially as I like to do lots of trackdays and although I was planning (if I change) to just get a 3k race bike I just cant imagine I will get better than my Evo

  6. I must confess when i first tried the Multi i could not tell a lot of difference between Sport and Touring.

Now i own one there is quite a big difference in the speed in which throttle reactions equate to road acceleration.

The GT is noticeably heavier than the Std and S versions BTW.

  7. If I get one it would be the std abs model. Then just get suspension set up and save my 3k

  8. How tall are you bradders and what's your inside leg measurement?

You've always said you were a short arse (like me) but you seem to have been able to get on and off it ok.

  9. 27" mate so short, about 5'7ish but short legs long body lol

Tbh its no taller when you are on it han my Evo but its seat is wider.

Spent a lifetime hopping one tiptoe to another so its no biggiei and again tbh this felt far lighter than a GS or even the old numpty at standstill

  10. Although not an 848 owner, I changed from a gixer 1000 to the multi abs version a couple of months ago.
power delivery great, although very different from my in line 4, and it winds on just fine! Had a little follow of some wannabe rossie's from Usk the other day and didn't lose them on the way back to Chepstow. In fact got a tad held up at times.
not bad for a sensible touring machine !
you would not be disappointed with the new ABS version. My back and knees have sent me thank you cards

  11. Are you on about the gt1000 sport thing?

  12. God no, 1200 Numpty ABS, its was the Gran Tourismo version I tried today

May just gauge any interest in my tricked up evo...

  13. Just get an RC8 and be done.

  14. Want to race something next year. Multi and a gixxer thou probably do the job but not 100% I cold just have multi on the road, it lacks the fun factor. Exactly like the GS I had.

  15. Ridden both, hard. GS is no comparison in any shape or form. Handling or power both a very poor second on the GS. And I've nothing to gain, being a first time Duc owner.

  16. Well in theory I should be able to manage it as well as you, as I'm 5'6" with a 29" inside leg.

I may just try and cock my leg over to see next time I'm in a Duc showroom. :upyeah:

  17. You'll struggle to get a leg over but once its there its easy :upyeah:

Be warned, its no where near the fun your Evo is

  18. I sat on a Diavel today and that was super comfy. Might have a test ride on one of those for a laugh

  19. I resisted altho Dave offered whatever I fancied. I couldn't cope if I liked it, been accused of being 50 already today and that would tip me over the edge

  20. Depends on the roads. On a trip back from wales last weekend, i left all my mates behind on their sportsbikes. The Multi is far better, more fun and quicker on many roads. And they all complained of aches and pains at the end of the day whereas i could have gone and ridden to whole journey back again, no problem.

In my opinion of course.
