Apparently there are only two groups of bikers; Those who have dropped their bike while stationary Those who will drop their bike while stationary Guess which group I joined yesterday??, pulled up, stand not fully down, getting off and down it went. Bugger. Got away quite lightly, bar end scuffed, slightly bent clutch lever, scuffed rear bobbin. Otherwise its ok, not another mark on it, lucky me £85 for a Panigale clutch lever................ok not cheap but could have been worse..........lots worse
Mate we've all done it. Nice one for getting away with it fairly cos effectively. You may have felt a bit of a tit but youre nowhere near as much of a tit as whoever designed that side stand on the 899.
I was walking away from one of mine a few years ago and saw it falling out the corner of my eye. I made the mistake of trying to grab the bar. It dragged my head down a rendered wall ripping my hair out and left me with my right hand pinned under the bar end. Fortunately i was at my parents house and my mum heard my head hit the wall and got my dad to lift the bike off of me. No damage to the bike just me. I felt like a right tit at the time. Can sympathise with you. It happens to the best of us.
yip once this year on the first run of the year on the 848. bent gear lever only but a f...ed knee tryng to save it. last year on the fugly in front of a hundred thousand tourists no real damage, just me pride. i am in both groups btw, just like every one else on here. :smileys:
Hey thanks guys, makes me feel a bit better Only one other person there to see it, never offered to give me a lift up with it though
Years ago i went up to the local motorists store, for some car part or other , on my owo1 . I had been working on my then car and just got on the bike with trainers on,what could go wrong in a mile and a half , when I got there iI was negotiating the side stand with said trainers . Unfortunately I managed to get the lace wrapped around the stud on the side stand and whilst trying to get off , all at the same time , bike fell on me but I couldnt get out from under it without the help of some quite hysterical youths who were stting on the wall watching everythiing unfold .
lol that happened to a girl mate of mines husband! He was moving the bike around the garage, wearing trainers and for some reason sitting on the bike.. Got his laces wrapped around the sets and stacked it an absolute treat.
I did the lace thing at a junction, pulled up went to put my foot down only to find the lace caught and next was me with firestorm on top.....grr. Dropped the same bike in garage, also dropped a vfr , anyone see a patern ?
Not dropped this one yet.......However, the fact that it comes with crash bars was a factor in deciding the purchase. Last time I went over was foot down on a soft verge in Scotland.
There's a third type that insist on doing a u turn at walking pace and drop it, and always on a bike night....and the fourth who now get it off and push it
Glad you got away with it. Bars, levers are easy fix, at least the paintwork didn't get a whack. It happens to everyone t some point! A few years ago i had my monster on the rear paddock stand on a driveway with slight gradient with the bike across the drive. I went to put the front stand on and over went the bike. Luckily the rear stand protected the bike with just the bar end and footpeg hitting the deck. 6 lives remaining!
I'm not getting cocky here, but bent clutch lever taken off and straightened in vice yesterday, so it really could have been much worse. I was very lucky. Might put a new 'un on if was ever to sell it and rest of it was still looking like a minter but it'll do for now
Ha! Me too! Once did it without my gloves on and missed and touched the exhaust and ended up with burnt fingers! :flushed:
