French trip booked for May and we are having a change this year in that we arn't planning anything regarding overnight stays, hotels etc. just gunna keep riding south until we have have enough for the day. Hope to hit the Route Napoleon by day 3. Do all that for a couple of days and then west to see the Millau Bridge and then turn north for home. With all that in mind a decent sat nav would be a must. I say decent because the one that I bought from Ducati( you remember the little red thing) when I got my first Mutly was basic to say the least. Put this on the Mutly site because ease of fit is important. Any ideas or thoughts would be most welcome guys.
Garmin 350LM. Fits Multi on the purpose built Ducati bracket neatly. Waterproof. LM stands for life time maps. Job done.
+1 (or there's the Tom Tom app, the Navigon app, etc, etc) Don't know about CoPilot, but you can plan routes for Navigon using RouteConverter - Home, then copy them to the phone using DiskAid - Transfer iPhone / iPad / iPod Music & Files to PC or Mac This makes a better and more intuitive combination than the Garmin offerings, IMHO.
Got the Zumo 350LM but it's Bluetooth connectivity is flawed with anything other than purpose built intercom system. Garmin may have sorted this with the new model the 390LM, but at the time I bought the unit the Zumo 660LM would have been better bet for the added features I wanted it to give me over and above basic visual navigation.
I have Tom Tom rider paired to headset and phone. Works just fine for me although I haven't been brave enough to go all continental yet!
Ojobear. See the "show us your sat nav" thread post no 44. I tried it with those ball joint jobbies attached to the bars but wasn't too keen so made a triangular plate with a couple of folds which mounts onto my Aztec spacers under the screen.. Fed the power cable behind the clocks, works a treat Got mine second hand with ball joints etc so not sure now what it comes with in the box. Have seen some people have drilled the screen adjustment piece and bolted the mount straight to that but I didn't want to make any unnecessary holes in the bike!
I've got a Tom Tom rider, which is all I need, I like to go without it most of the day just going by a map in the general direction! really great bit of kit v simple to use paired to my headset, went last year through loads of europe, I always take a good map as I like to look at the whole picture of the days riding!
Plus 1. France is one of the easier places to navigate with a map, so sat nav just back up. Route Napoleon good in places. Don't miss Verdon Gorge (North and South side) and better still Lac de Castillon...cracking road along the side of the lake (D955, chicken strip removal!) east of Castellane. Just off the N85. I must do those roads again soon.
Bought a Garmin 660 and used it last year for a trip to Austria - great piece of kit. When I purchased it I was able to sign up for European lifetime updates (for a one off payment of £75 I think) which made it even better imho. I fitted it to my 2012 Multi using one of these. Great piece of kit which means you can watch the road and glance down to the SatNav (if you need to) just like you would with the dash. Mark H
Rivets - Go Continental!! You'll never look back. Riding on mainland Europe is sooo much better than riding in the UK. Roads are much emptier (considerably so), it is far less built up, and the locals actually like bikers. Do it - you wont regret it.
+1 for the new TomTom Rider 2013, Ball mounted on the bar clamp and Bluetoothed to a Schuberth C3 with a SRCS collar.
