France bans the payment of any bill over 1000 Euros with cash. Abolish cash? You’d be losing a crucial part of free society - Telegraph Do we like cash or should it be phased out and replaced electronic payments ? Who benefits and who loses ? If I want to conduct a transaction with someone why should I be forced to go through the government ?
I am an old git and I do like using cash for some transactions.a few years back my bank card details were copied at a petrol station and my account was used for various transactions up to the value of about £1500.I now use cash or credit card for petrol.I always use cash at restaurants as I am now paranoid about my card details being copied. A few years back I wanted to buy my daughter a new car, using cash. The dealer wouldn't take cash, only card.So I gave my debit card to my daughter and the pin number. She used that at the dealer and they didn't bat an eyelid.Funny old world,eh?
I don't want to see cash 'banned' but for me everything runs smoother without cash. I almost never carry any, I would much rather pay with my card or by PayPal etc. It's a genuine inconvenience for me when I'm forced to go out and get cash...
Mrs Mervyn will often use cashback when she goes supermarket shopping. Most of the bikes I have sold have been for cash.
Arrrrrrghhh Don't get me bleedin started. I to am an old git but quite happy with Paypal and cards. I don't carry a mobile phone except when out on the bike, so the swipe thingy with a phone will pass me by. My bug bear is with small transactions and the currently clumsy method of paying by card. I go in to buy a loaf or a paper for instance, maybe a queue of 4 or so people if everyone is paying by card, it takes forever and raises my blood pressure to the point I could operate the front calipers with it. I did see a woman recently with some sort of swipe card technology and that was much more efficient. Cards are fine but the current system to use them especially in smaller shops is just way too slow and cumbersome. Mind its better than paying for a pack of 10 tabs by cheque which I seen a guy in supermarket do one time. I was certain that somebody in the ever expanding queue behind him was going to murder him.
banks benefit every time. direct debits, overdrafts due to monthly pay. got you by the short and curlies
as i have said here before the implications for a cashless society are massive.. think about it, every thing you spend money on will have a history. You will be judged (as will your children) by your spending habits. The records of the amount you spend on "healthy" food compared to junk food for example or the amount you spend on sporting activates compared to video games for your kids will be information that is bought and sold to make decisions (based on statistics not individuals) that will effect everyone on the planet. Children from a poor or working class areas where their parents educational achievements and spending patterns are not what the banks (who will rule the world if this goes ahead) deem to be a viable risk, may never get into a good school or ever get a mortgage as statistics will and do show that they follow trends.. forgetting the fact that many a poor child has made good. the fact that your parents spent alot on junk food for you as a child will be information that insurance companies will use to charge you more for life/medical insurance. these are but some examples (albeit poorly illustrated) but if you think about it, it is mind blowing
If cash disappeared then so would a lot of crime and in turn the MP's would not get there kick backs or be able to pay for there habits. Cash will stay.
you really think crime would disappear? i think that if people are locked into a pre determined future with no chance of breaking the mold, the only way to improve ones lot would be crime...
