The most complicated footwear ever.

  1. i got a cracking deal on a new pair of Sidi Vortice race boots yesterday (£225 from £300)..they are easily the best bike clogs ive ever worn, but man..how fkn complicated are they to don???

a zip, velcro cover, an inner liner boot, more hinges, cantilevers and articulations than a hingey, cantilevery articulatatory thing, and then theres the multiplicity of those super trick fishing line/disk adjuster/clip thingies..

has anyone else got a pair? will i be able to get them on in under 20 minutes eventually?

    fkn great though...

  2. I had a couple of pairs of those, just got some supertechs. They are great boots and really look the part. One word of warning though, if you ride with leathers in boots watch the little black covers where the ankle brace meets the foot part don't come off, there are screws underneath that make a bit of a mess of the bike.

  3. is the phrase 'they saw you coming' apt...:)

maybe they thought heres a bloke who could cause serious damage. protect him

  4. duly noted, ta.

  5. Sidi's...squeak, fall apart and don't protect your feet. Shocker!

  6. Got a pair and over time I have pretty much destroyed them. Great boot, not quite as comfy off the bike as my Supertechs. Yeah they are a bit of a fiddle, especially when one of the ratchets locks up. Oh yeah, happy days

  7. These?

Think I must have the earlier version, just the one strap across the foot.
Good boots, mine are the perforated summer ones, hate having hot feet!

  8. Sounds like your boots are Sidi Vertigos Corsas. Im with you on the perforated thing thou

  9. I have a pair too. I posted earlier about destroying the red clip thingies trying to get the stand down. Anyway I can now get them on in around 5 minutes if no problems with the ratchet or clips.

I like them extremely comfortable if a little awkward. That said I don't think I'd buy another set too bloody complicated. I just bought a set Gaerne GP1 race boots, yet to ride with them, but they are quite comfy too.

  10. They are just too complicated. Mine have a zip, a velcro bit and a ratchet affair at the back/top. That's fancy enough for me.

  11. Funky I think you need simple boots because I can just see a moment coming on with the new ones :-O

    Better safe than sorry ;-)

  12. Wow, those are real cyborg things!
This might be a silly question but if you come off your bike and break your leg I believe the ususal practice is to cut off your trousers and boots so they can access the wound. How are they going to cut off boots like those? It looks like they would need plasma cutting equipment to get through them!

  13. You can always throw them at the neighbors noisey kids if all else fails funki.

  14. Waaaay too complicated.

    TCX or Dainese Axials FTW!

  15. I have the same - if those are the Goretex version. Even these are quite complicated:

Drawstring inner which takes a bit of faffing with. Secure drawstring tab with velcro to its own pad. Zip up boot. Secure its tab to velcro pad. Insert ratchet tab and tighten. It all needs quite a bit of jiggery pokery such that when it's a hot day, you've already got a sweat on before you've got outside.

No doubt this is the price for foot safety.

  16. Yep - mine are the Goretex version. I think, anyway.

  17. I use Sidi Adventure with gortex liner and the articulated heel making it a touch easier to walk. Easy enough to put on with just the 2 ratchet clips and Velcro but needs a bit of farting around to get the leather trouser leg properly comfortable

  18. D'you know, the one thing that really pisses me off about biking is the whole dressing up rigmarole. If you want to go out with a decent bit of protection it can easily take you twenty minutes to kit up, by which time all your mates are in the pub and halfway through their second pint.

And that's if it ain't raining...

  19. I'm getting ready now, and I'm not leaving till saturday!
