the next bike i buy will be a mts skyhook. however i'd like your thoughts and input on what bits are worth adding to the bike, she will be mostly used for commuting, normal adventures and long term ownership. it'll be a standard skyhook s red, and as i currently have a versys there's a few things on mine that i'd like on the mutley. so far.... tour tech pipe / rad / oil guard reflective rim tape (saved my life at least twice) barkbuster hand bar, the minimal ones screen lifting coils (i'm 6'5") & screen skirts tracker & datatag crash bungs / bobbins / knee pads scot oilier gap insurance is it worth putting a different chain on the machine out the box?? head a few horror stories. uk mts come with a 2 year warranty? can you increase it to 4? is the after market panniers / top box better long term quality than the normal duc boxes? thoughts / ideas? (hi i'm new by the way)
I wouldn't bother to change the chain until yo need to. Mine has lasted over 15k miles, so depending on how many you do a year that coulda at a while. Also check whether the crash bungs will actually work. Last time I looked the wheel spindle ones dont touch at all and frame protectors touch down after other bits. I would suggest a front fender extender too, and possibly armourfend. Welcome to the forum
Standard warranty is 2 years and you can only extend it to 3yrs with Ducati. After that you need to go for an independant warranty. As for luggage, personally I think the Ducati stuff is worth the money, and integrates properly. The after market stuff is good too, but is an acquired taste.
Hi and welcome! The Duc warranty can can only be extended for one further year at a cost of around £250 (I think it was) giving a total of three years. After that you can look at Warranty Direct or similar. I have used the Duc boxes several times and have had no problems. Some say they are flimsy but they seem to work for me and on the plus side are very light (empty) and use the Duc key. They don't need any extra ironwork added to the bike either which is a bonus compared to some aftermarket kit. The top box is huge so plenty of space there (two helmets)and larger pannier lids are available if needed. The kit is by Givi so pretty good quality IMO. No problems with the chain and mine has done 12,000 miles including several full power dyno runs. Den
Well, this is my take on things, Ditch the standard exhaust, all of it as it gets rid of the cat and valve, Forget gap insurance, mine is new for old for the first 12 months anyway, Forget crash protection, that's what insurance is for, likewise the tracker, expensive and I have no faith in it. The Ducati luggage was made for the bike and suits it better than aftermarket. I've been riding for 30 years and never had anything damage a rad or oil cooler. Oh and I don't like scott oilers. The rest is all personal taste i guess.
Save £3k and get the standard bike. If you find the suspension not to your liking then spend £1k on a pro. upgrade, it will be better imo. Scottoiler? More like tyre oiler, again my view but its what I 'see'. Ducati panniers 'fit' the bike, I wouldnt look any further. Btw, welcome, my bike is due 1st March.....
Extended warranty, but has to be bought by the first owner! Lose the cat box and that stupid valve (stupidest invention ever)! After losing a locked on pannier I've gone fr the SW motech ones....a bit agricultural, but they ain't ever going to fly off! Fender extender good idea, heated grips brill, that's about it, got lots of carbon bits, but that's just bling) PS welcome and enjoy the bike!
Apparently it wont. The skyhook is a genuine revelation, according to both trade and press, and adjust so well on the fly it makes the bike far easier, better and more comfy to ride not that I have ridden either....too tall
