Imagine a situation (heaven forbid) where your beloved SC is flattened in a freak runaway steamroller accident. Squashed to a pulp but you are unharmed. The nice insurance company hands you a cheque for a cool £9500 (for that is the way prices are going friends), So far so good. But the insurance company stipulates that you may spend it on any motorcycle, new or used but...you must buy something within the next seven days or lose the money and THERE ARE NO SCs ON THE MARKETPLACE! Silly I know but what bike would you buy?
I wonder what the 'book price' is for a Sport Classic? Those nice insurance companies don't usually like paying out a penny more than they can get away with. Asuming £9,500 has been trousered, I don't know. I think there would have to be quite a few test rides. I don't buy new bikes so I would be looking for 6-12 month old bikes & let someone else take the depreciation hit. Might have to wait for some of the bikes on my list to fulfill that criteria. List: Ducati Streetfighter 1098/848 Ducati Monster 1100 evo Ducati Monster 1200 Ducati Hypermotard/Hyperstrada 821 Ducati Hypermotard 1100S evo Duacti Multistrada 1200 Ducati Diavel Triumph Speed Triple 1050 Kawasaki Z1000 BMW S1000R Tell you what, send me £9,5000 & I'll try all the above bikes and then I'll give my definitive answer...
Oh better add my 2p's worth... MV Agusta F4 in the classic Red/Silver combo... 750 or 1000 , no matter. Very different but I've always wanted to own an MV even for a few months
Something interesting ... DUCATI SINGLE 450 VINTAGE CLASSIC RACER | eBay and a half tidy 748 with the change
I think i would have a chat to the guys at Spirit of the 70s see if I could commission one of their Ducati tt3 concepts. Might need to top up on the money though oh and change the paint job.
This + some change to be spent on a 2nd hand Multistrada 1100: JHP Projects - Ducati Coventry - West Midlands Motorcycle Dealership This & a lot of explaining to do when I got home: JHP Projects - Ducati Coventry - West Midlands Motorcycle Dealership
Went out for a nice ride on my GT1000 this afternoon. Kept my eyes peeled for runaway steamrollers, although myopic coffin dodgers in small hatchbacks seemed to present the most prevalent threat. Found some dryish roads around the Vale of Belvoir & headed home just before the gritters came out as the ambient temp dropped. Bike cleaned, lubed etc & tucked away in the garage.
