Take, for example, the latest; 2007 DUCATI SPORT 1000 YELLOW | eBay The seller boasts that the bike has "A stainless steel Klein Exhaust (previous owner states it cost £2000)!" Now I'm 99.9% sure that is a Keihan exhaust costing £428.00 inclusive of VAT - I should know as I have just bought one and there is no such record of a "Klein Exhaust" that I can find. A not so subtle way of boosting the price perhaps? But a more than 400% exaggeration is a bit much in my book. Then he writes "I am not going to be greedy on the price, I'm fair and want what its worth" whilst later says "I already have a good offer from a local Ducati enthusiast so if I don't sell this in 5 days he will get it!" I don't know about you but that just begs the question "How much did the Ducati enthusiast offer?" £5500? £6000? £6500? - It must be a fair bit less than his £7000 asking price (with offer) otherwise why bother to advertise? The SC looks fine though and reflects the 5k miles he is reporting - even down to the original tyres. Also, why on earth does he not state it's a Monoposto anywhere in the ad? The whole thing smells of reading someones inflated CV where they exaggerate the good points and try to cover up the bad - totally transparent! Good bike or no I am automatically wary of a seller who writes in this way.
It's already sold... but to be fair the price was good by today's standards. There's one more on eBay for £9k It looks like quite a few people are selling them.
Last month I bought a Sport 1000S Biposto for more money than I wanted but glad I did as love the bike (but not the riding position in town!). I paid £8k for a 2008 Biposto with Termis, DP ECU etc, just fully serviced and MOT'd with belts- it had done just under 9000 miles was local to me and in good condition. I know that's what they cost new but some are for sale for a lot more money- I wish I bought one new when they were available!
Greg - I wouldn't worry - these bikes are 'keepers' - and in 10 years time you will have forgotten what you paid for it , the bike will have appreciated to an astronomical sum ... and £8000 will just about buy a Chinese moped!
Definitely a keeper & have already forgotten what it cost! Just looking at it is priceless & you get great comments wherever you go!
