1098 Thinking Of Buying A 1098

  1. Hi, this is my first post. Looking at getting a 1098, can you give me some advice on what to look for when buying the bike. Also is there any security fitted as standard like the Yiss and Hiss systems from the Japanese manufactures.

    Thanks Dave

  2. Buy it, they're great bikes. Same as any other bike, just look for a decent service history. The only peculiarity with Ducatis is that the timing belts need changing, so check to see if they've been done or are due for changing.

As for security, you'll need a garage and a big shouty dog. Maybe a bear trap.

    Welcome to the forum:)

  3. there is an immobiliser fitted within most post 2003 ducatis, works within the ecu dash and key..........on a 1098 i believe its dash and key...

  4. Dash and key. Make sure the seller has the code.
Personally I'd keep away from the earlier bikes....Some had issues!

  5. great bike, as other have said, look for detailed service history and particularity check when the belts were last changed if his close to 2 years or more then you will need to factor in the extra service costs (circa @£600) . find a good independent ducati specialist mechanic don't go to main dealers you will save a lot of cash

2008 models up fixed a few of niggles

the 's' models are worth the little extra money imho

  6. I see so many Ducatis commuting into London, the old adage of Ducati 'making mechanics out of riders' is pretty much forgotten. But they still have little issues to remind you they're not japanese; the clutch slave cylinders are a weak spot, and so are the oil pressure switches. This doesn't apply to Multistrada owners, by the way...Don't buy a multistrada bozz, it will break down, spit at you, deflower your daughter and shed oil and lacquer in equal quantities...

My brother's 1098S must be post-40,000 miles by now, and most of those miles have been thrashing across the continong to motogp races. The harder you use them, the better they seem to behave.

  7. Absolutely fantastic and grin causing bike. Love mine so much I am worried about the fact that when it wears out what on earth will replace it. Pre gizmo, so it has to be ridden with the senses, and that fact alone is worth the experience. Brilliant piece of kit.:upyeah:

  8. Honest, I miss my 1098S for only one thing. The extra grunt. However don't underestimate the 848. Ride both before you buy. I love the 848 now, more than capable in mixed company. :)

  9. Where are you Dave? I have an 08 for sale (as yet not advertised). Selling due to lack of use sadly. 9k ish miles Zard carbon cans and a few other extras. I am willing to discuss a reasonable price for a hassle free sale. I am North East of Manchester. If you are serious and not too far away I am sure we can do a deal. PM me if you like.
