Thinking Of Getting My First Ducati...

  1. Hi All.

Im have been riding my speed triple for a year now and although I like it, we just did not have chemistry. We decided to separate but stay friends.

Ironicly, when I first bought the Speed Triple from Bristol Kawasaki, they had a white Ducati Streetfighter next to it. I really like it but liked the look of the ST more so went for that instead. I wish I took both out for a spin before making that decision.

Anyway, the main thing I do not like about the Speed Triple is that it just felt quite top heavy. Being 5ft8, I just found it a little awkward wen trying to pull the bike back in the wet as I never had a proper grip on the floor with both feet. I could have gone for a shorter seat but...well... I didn't.

So now im in a position where I can afford a Ducati and the only one I really like is the SF. The problem is that I don't want the 848 as im worried I will get bored with the power quite quickly. I like raw power. :)
So Im on the lookout for a 2012 1098 Streetfighter. Just hoping ill get on with that better then my ex to be Triumph.

  2. For someone who's supposed to be shy, @shyboy you don't half go on Dave :)

  3. lol... sorry. just a little excited :) always wanted a Ducati but could only ever dream of owning one. Being a 'little' older has its downsides (especially when getting beat in sparring like I just did by a 22 year old!) but its time to start enjoying the positive side of getting older. Like being able to afford one of these things of beauty!

  4. Hi, I've spent a lot of time riding a speed triple, u wouldn't be disappointed with a 848 engine, it's definitely much more 'raw' and full of character than the speed triple IMHO, also I'm not sure that the speed ever feels like the 125-130hp it's supposed to have.

I wouldn't knock u getting the 1098, sure would be a different league in terms of excitement, but read up because some seem to prefer the chassis of the 848 compared to the 1098 one.

    Good luck in your search

  5. Yep, those that own the 848, hardly an unbiased opinion. A bit like back in the day when people used to say the 748 was a better bike than the 916. The people saying this were the 748 owners. :) Get what you want @shyboy , and if it's the 1098, you'll love it.

Here's mine, I can't eveer see me selling it. It's my favourite bike. :upyeah:

  6. Test ride both, theyre very different bikes.

  7. Sparring with a 22 yr old! Are totally mad? The only way I would go up against a kid that age is if I had a cosh

  8. I wish you hadn't started talking about fighters. It's snowing outside and now I have an urge to ride her.

I'll have to book a little time on the continent next year and find roads like this.

  9. I wasn't saying don't get a 1098! Just don't discount the 848, test ride both and go from there

  10. I'm not knocking the 848 either Phil, it's a great bike. But the OPs criteria was that he wanted the "Raw power" of the 1098. I was the same, so I can understand where he's coming from. The punch out of the corners is addictive. :)

  11. Thanks for the comments and replied boys.

On two previous occasions in my life, when allowing the logical, left side of my brain win an argument, I ended up regretting it. Once was with a ZX6 and the other shall remain untold as she may be reading this right now. I think that its definitely going to be a 1098. My only concern is the racket that dry clutch makes. Sounds like my old rd350 ypvs after it had a brand new hole organically fitted in its piston.

Love your bike Robarano. Looks stunning. I'm going to have a look at a 2012 with 5000 miles on Sunday. Its an s in red/white which is a shame as I really like the all red but Its going for £8.5k so quite a good price for such an immaculate example with low mileage. Unfortunately, pipes are standard though so that's another £800 on top for a pair of decent slip ons.

    red, reb/white, black....decisions decisions...

  12. Hello and welcome to the mad house
    You can't be shy here

    Red is the bestest colour

    Good luck choosing :)

  13. Don't be in any rush to buy something mate. See if you can get some test rides.

Could always look at the 1098/1198's etc. They will make you feel 'alive'.

Don't feel to bad about getting schooled by a 22 year old. I'm 25 and used to box at a reasonable level. Last time I went down the club I had trouble keeping up with a 17 year old.

When I caught him, he felt it though ;)

  15. If the dry clutch noise pisses you off there's a simple conversion by putting a friction plate in 1st that stops the rattle with lever out, but makes nice ringing noise when lever is pulled in. Dry clutches are good for easy maintenence, 30mins strip and replace plates.
Search quiet clutch mod on here.
