Thinking Of Moving Her On,

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by savagenoize, Mar 4, 2017.

  1. But the question is, do I break, sell as is, or MOT and service.
So my 853 conversion has been sat in the garage for a couple of years SORN, and covered, with a battery conditioner on and it seems such a shame. Its definitely a bike that should be being used,
its got loads of extras on it and it seems to me that the sum is not worth the whole. Is it sacrilege to pull it to pieces and move the parts on or should I do the right thing and make sure she goes to a good home?

  2. Im always sorry to see a good bike broken for spares, if you can get a fair price let someone else have the pleasure of owning it, I have an 853 and love it.
It's always your choice, good luck whatever you do.

  3. Yeh, I'd rather not break her up, but can't decide wether to sell as is or get the mot and service done, is it actually going to increase the value of the bike such that it makes it worth it?

  4. Depends how quickly you want the money. Break it and yes you will get more (853 needs a very particular buyer) but may take months to sell enough to equal what you would have got in one go, then months more to see whats left :)

  5. i would prefer to sell as a whole, but i'm pretty sure i'd get way more for the parts, unless of course i can get lucky with a buyer, I might put it up for sale with options, its been fired up every couple of months, what do you guys reckon? a grand difference between mot/service and as is?

  6. I do have all the original parts so could always put it back to a standard 748, and then sell on the upgrades.

  7. So how much are we talking about?

  8. As above, never nice to see a good bike broke. And 748/9*6/8 making good money right now.

Breaking might get more but seems a pain. Not sure how in demand a 853 engine would be? I seem to remember @cookster breaking a 853 and took a while to sell some bits on I'd have thought would have gone quick. Maybe the 853 has been superseded by 1098 upgrade.

It seems standard bikes sell well and fancy parts always get cash.

I think I'd put back to standard and sell the bling on.

    Actually, I'd just keep/ride her.

  9. Oh, and I'd say MOT but don't service and price according. People like a 12 month MOT. Personally I'd rather pay £500 less for a bike and change the oil/filters/belts etc myself.

  10. So many wise words all in a row and in some semblance of order too - are you drunk already :Wideyed:

  11. agreed, some wise words indeed, and yes the sun was over the yard arm a while ago now.
But herein lies my dilemma, whilst putting back to standard as the engine will have to come out i may as well include a service yes? however i'm not going to make back what i've put in as it is, so I may as well say goddam it and just shift it on, anybody want an 853 with 12 months mot needing a service for ........ whatever

  12. I have Wotsits.
