Thinking of selling mts s touring, lugg inc top box, lots of cf (pp screen, rear mud, etc), rizoma tail tidy, termi shorty 18k miles, fsh. - Looked on web reckon around 9.5 too high ? What u guys think ? Havent made mind up as the both heads just been done and effectively been serviced again but maybe I am havin a moment of weakness. Bugs
You didn't give the bikes age - I assume 2010? My bike sounds similar to yours but is 2011 without the extras. I asked for a valuation for when it was two years old with 18,000 on the clock. A main dealer said to expect £7000 to £8000 against a new one. Big loss as it cost me over £16000 with all the bits. If it is two years old with a year of extended Ducati warranty you should find a buyer at £9000 to £9500 as there are people out there that would love one but cannot afford the new price. IMHO a warranty is what most buyers will want to see as its still a (relatively) expensive bike. You might get a bit more back on the 'extras' by selling them separately having put the bike back to standard. Let us know how you get on. Den
I have just part exchanged my March 2011 Multistrada 1200 S Touring against a new Triumph Speed Trip. My machine had 12500 miles on ( several dealers said this was high! ) it had panniers but no top box, a standard bike in good condition but not perfect. I took the £8500 offer from Pidcocks. I had extended the warranty but by selling now avoided the expensive 15000 K service and by chopping it in avoided all the hassle of a private sale. With a deal done on the new price of a Speed Triple ABS it was just about a straight swop. Lost a lot of cash on the Multistrada but if you buy a bike to ride and enjoy there is not much point in complaining. I took the view that with the updated 2013 machine arriving, any higher mileage older machines especially those out of warranty, could be difficult to shift at a decent price. If you are wondering why I would sell such a great bike; just had enough of problems and failures.
Cheers guys yer it's 2010 model, 8000 low then, best 9500 private then I take it from ur comments, struggling to find replacement bike, it does have a bit of warranty left. New bike would need to have more power, still comfortable and more reliable. Dare I say vf1200 but that's boring, heavy, so looking at ssports like gsxr1 or fireblade1 but worried about confort, maybe a bm s1000. One thing I want is better noise as thing I also missed was screaming banshee soundtrack. Bugs
My mate is in the 'trade' and it seems that dealers are marking down part x prices for multi's due to all the reported issues that they have had, they are worried about moving them on unless they have a good length of Ducati warranty left. The aftermarket warranties won't cover things like head corrosion etc.
I paid £8500 cash in a private sale 3 weeks ago on a 22500 mile June 2010 MTS1200S, loads of extra carbon, seats and screens, boxes of the stuff. The bike is like new...And I mean I've had dirtier new bikes. New chain/sprokets all the recalls done and the expensive 15K service (circa £800). I'm happy and so was the seller...(i t'ink). So about £1000 later...I'm still adding bits...
Jeez, so my bike has lost 7 grand in 2.5 years. That's about 45% !!!!!!! Looks like it will have to be kept a few years then? Oh and I won't be making that mistake again
Although it sounds bad I can't think of another bike I'd rather have so I plan on keeping it a while yet - that makes me feel better about the bad depreciation
I don't think it's as bad as you think. There are plenty being advertised at much higher prices, just check out ebay (don't forget completed listings). It's a bad time of year to sell and there is very little "unallocated" cash around, so it's a buyers market. To be honest I thought the bike had a great reputation until I came on this site and by then my heart was set on it. My two grumbles are a rough engine low down and poor headlamps, both of which are just about to get sorted (me hopes!). At least the weekend weather looks clear, albeit cold. Heated grips...mmmmm.
Been done to death but Osram Night breakers, plus a bit of fiddling with the height adjustment go a long way to making the headlights acceptable (not brilliant, but acceptable).
