Thinking of selling my 748s to get something with less power. I find my self up at high speeds whenever i get out on it and i just cant seem to ride it slow for long anyone else have this problem? I know the 748 isnt exactly a power house but its more than fast enough for what i will ever need. Was nearly caught speeding twice over the weekend which got me thinking about this So what to do? Drive slower lol
I've tried to slow myself down by getting increasingly older, more staid bikes. But it only half works; I get pulled at 120 instead of 160:frown:
I'm in a similar boat to you (well, not a boat really).......I'm slightly nervous before I go out on the bike these days.........largely because I'm old enough to know that it will f*****g hurt and won't heal quickly / easily if I have an off.......This is all unlike how I used to be....never gave it a thought to go for a blast in any weather. Trouble is now, once I get out there and if the bike seems to be OK, I appear to be able to stuff part of my brain in my pocket and have a few lairy moments when no-one is looking...... ...but I have definitely calmed down a bit and ride at speeds where I hope I know I'm not going to lose it in a bend, although I think I would be just as bad on a 350 Enfield.
Think you will have this problem with any bike unless you buy a 50cc. I find the 748 to be a relatively slow machine and with 600's kicking out more of a punch I'd struggle to see where you can go. You will regret selling the 748 trust me, just learn to slow down and enjoy your time on the open road.
The 748 is slow?........I knew it...............I gave him such a shock when I caught him up quickly, then outbraked him into a small roundabout.......(not the OP, you understand)...........It gave me a shock as well.......I thought he was well gone when he went across me while I waiting at traffic lights.
I've recently bought/built a Monster and although it is still quite fast (acceleration at lower speeds feels quicker than the 916) I find my self going considerably slower than on the 916, yet still enjoying the ride - maybe I'm getting old?. :frown: My point is that 70 on a Monster feels like 100 on a 916. Still enjoying the 916 though...
I nearly had a heart attack.......I thought that was my 750LTD for a minute...... It would do the OP just nicely.
Diagnosis----the problem is the connection between your right hand and your brain Cure --------- Think? Problem solved.
At least you are still paying attention "nearly caught speeding twice"......get something without a fairing.....can't go fast if you are having trouble hanging on ....trouble is the hyper has wheely problems:wink:
I tried the "buy a slower bike" trick a few years ago. I sold my blade and bought a ktm duke2. It did slow me down, but only as far as ultimate top speed. I ended up riding like a complete twat everywhere. Stoppies and wheelies at every traffic light, no slowing down for corners and speed bumps became launch pads. I would have been better off keeping the blade.
