Thinking of taking your Panigale out on Track ?

  1. Well, ahem, after todays experiences at Oulton Park with No Limits, you may need to rethink that plan....

This was a completely standard Panigale S Road bike, with a standard oe Termignoni silencer.. and according to the scrutineer it tested at 109dB, and with decibel killers it retested at 107dB.

So this was pretty much as close to the track as the Panigale got today....

  2. I heard DMC's bike last week end it reminded me of an RC8

  3. Half the reason I never got the rc8 on track, love the sound but unfortunately the noise testers didn't :(

  4. For gods sake don't take me to snetterton then!!

  5. This will be the ultimate irony. Having an amazing bike that only really makes sense on the track and then not being able to take it on one. Doh! I can see it now - everyone "upgrading" to a quiet Termi system. Sob!

  6. Can you take the baffles out of the standard OE exhausts then?

  7. @Duke63 - not sure I follow ? DMC had some separate dB killers which they fitted which knocked it down 2dB

  8. The way you worded it, it sounded like some baffles had been taken out before it was tested, but i'm guessing thsi was not the case.

If this was on the stock OE exhaust, there are going to be a lot of disappointed riders turned away from trackdays this year.

  9. System was completely stock - straight out of the crate...

  10. same story for me at oulton park last year

on a 996 with 106db and it is a 102db limit...waste of £150 ...even though I did get it down to 104db with a baffle they said no

    gutted

  11. will probley read 200db at snetterton. the place is a joke. cracking track shame the testing is so unaccurate. :(

  12. Oulton is very strict on noise.

  13. Same as the Desmo, the ultimate track tool but you'll only get it on track (legally) outside of the uk.

  14. Utter tosh. Our BSB race bike was only 105dB.....How did they measure it ? The Panigale exhausts exit sideways, so if they hold the microphone like they do for other bikes, at 45degrees to the rear of the bike, it will be like shoving it straight up the exit of the can, and getting the benefit of all the noise pulses at the same time. We will be there testing on a trackday at Oulton on 27th, with Binny and a std road going Panigale....I'll see how its measured then and put them right if they are doing it wrong. The Panigale cans also bounce the noise straight off the ground, so should be measured NOT on tarmac but on sand or earth or a sound absorbent mat.

  15. Thought it a bit unlikely that a bike making 109db of noise on standard cans would ever have got through Type Approval.

Oulton seem very haphazard with their testing. My CBR600 trackbike failed at the last trackday yet a few 1098s/916s and RSV's seemed to get through with open cans.

  16. have to say, I'm thinking of getting a big jap bike for the track. With standard cans, they'll be quiet enough for any track and certainly powerful enough.

Sacrilege, I know, but with noise considerations and thrash-the-balls-off-and-put-it-in-the-garage reliability...

Won't stop me buying Ducatis tho :upyeah:

  17. Absolutely agree nog - unfortunately little hitler at oulton didn't - his attitude was I'm the scrutineer and I'll do it how I bloody well please - now do one - your not going on the track with it!

  18. Take it to mallory! I have never seen a noise meter at that circuit. They are realist's and only pull up bikes making stupid amounts of noise.
Welcome to the freindly circuit!

  19. Is there an Officail way to measure the sound , I've heard people say they have to stand 45 degrees behind the bike and only every been tested myself with the it rite in the exhaust pipe. ???
