I'm researching potential track bikes and stumbled on this in a trawl through some classifieds. Not usually much of a fan of race livery on road bikes but there's something quite tasty about this. I'm not about to go buying a bog standard road bike and trying to do my own track conversion as a complete rookie, I was just curious about the suitability of an old 900 blade and wondered what you could get for your money. I just love the look of it.
A mate has one from that era, good bikes. Only done 1 track day on my R1 (2002) was lots of fun. Personally I would go for something like this over a 600. But if I ever had a track bike I always think it would be fun with something from the 80's tuned to the hilt with modern suspension and brakes, just to be different. My KR1000 Replica will be around 175 kilo and 155 bhp when it's finished in a few hundred years
A Blade is often considered a safe option as the handling is very neutral so the bike feels planted although some criticise that as somewhat uninvolving. Plenty of bits to pimp it and plenty of bits if you have an off. The Blade in most of it's iterations has a very loyal following and they can't all be wrong. The only thing I see as a drawback is running a big v twin as a day bike and revvy JIL4 as a track bike. I gave my R6 track bike to my girlfriend because it seemed alien to give it the revs it needed to make it fly. Ride a (modified) 748 now which makes me smile every time I jump on it. Andy
