Been adding a bit of bling over the winter months - Firstly a Renthal gold chain and sprocket kit, Jeez, I've never known a front sprocket so difficult to get at! Once I had the fairing lowers off I just sat and looked at it for about 20 mins to weigh up the best way to tackle it! Unbolted, rear end of shock and bungeed that over seat so it was out of the way, swingarm linkage, gear quick shift, footpeg assy, and main mounting casting, sidestand etc Managed to knock up an extension adaptor for my ABBA stand with some threaded rod, that enabled me to turn main casting through 90 deg to get at front sprocket bolt. Everything off and front sprocket removed Not a lot of wear on standard front sprocket ( left ) but I wouldn't really expect that after 8,000 miles The finished job, plus carbon chainguard and lots of other carbon bits still to be fitted. The other awkward job I did was to fit a black MRA screen, you can do it without taking the fairing off, or disconnecting the mirror indicator wires. I lost one of the front wellnuts down into the headlamp area, but luckily I was able to get it back out with a long steel "pick" as it was just sat on top of the headlamp shell. To get it back in, I duct taped the wellnuts onto the front of the screen, but lapped the tape backwards leaving a long piece to get hold of, this was enough for me to get the screen in place, fit the front two screws and once they were tightened I then pulled the long piece of duct tape and it came out nicely from behind the fairing. BTW- what flippin size are those screen screws??? I tried a 1.5mm allen key - too small.........then a 2.0mm allen key - too big!!! ended up filing a 2.0mm key down a bit to get it to fit!! weird, never known anything like that
I lost the lower screen well nuts... Need to order a couple more. Apparently MRA screens come with the push fit type fixings, much easier!
Yeah, the MRA screen I've fitted has the push in plastic fittings, I didn't want to use them cos they looked so cheap and I'm sure they wouldn't hold it firmly enough and the screen would rattle and fret against the fairing. Have a look on top of the headlamp shell, that's where the wellnuts normally land, part of the wiring loom runs over there and mine was just hidden under the loom.
Ta-daa!! Its a standard shape ( not double bubble ) black tint, the fit is very good, matches the fairing with no gaps or distortion
I recently changed the C&S on my 1199 and didn't have to go through that rigmarole to get the front sprocket off.
Got the screen from this German company for 73 Euro's total inc delivery, 3 days to get to me from placing order! Standard Screen MRA Ducati 1199 Panigale 12-14 black MrC - I'd be interested to hear more on your technique, got any pics???
Sorry no pics.. Cut chain off Removed slave cylinder Removed Sprocket cover and that metal brace thingymabob Undid the big hex nut Slid sprocket out That was it!
Hmmm......knew you were gonna say that, I didn't want to pull the slave cylinder off after an episode I had putting an Oberon slave cylinder on a 990 KTM,....Unknown to me :rage:, I managed to loose the ball bearing from the end of the pushrod and then spent a couple of days wondering why the bl00dy thing wouldn't work properly...:Banghead: What's that saying :- "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it!!"
Also had a nightmare changing the screen to a zero gravity one the problem was one of the screws that held the mirror in place was overtightened by DM I ended up cutting off the screen to remove the pressure on the screw and didn't help me losing to the nuts down the front of the fairing
Fitted an Puig dark screen to mine a couple of months back and feel your pain. Ive got a carbon sproket cover to fit but have been putting it off as ive had a look at what has to to removed before I can replace the OEM one.
