Throttle Heavy, And Brake Pads

  1. Hi Folks,
Well, got my little 600ss out on the first ride today, not exactly blistering fast, but what a hoot, makes you feel like you're going fast, but you look at the speedo and you aren't, I love it! The one fly in the riding experience is an overly heavy throttle action, apart from the expected limp wrist, you need to exercise your wrist comments, etc etc, are there any mods that can be done to the bike to make the action lighter?.
I'm going to replace the disc pads, any recommendations?.
    Thanks
    Alan.

  2. The throttle action shouldn't be heavy as standard , sounds more like a bit of maintenance is required.

  3. Depends what you are looking for, from hard track use biting hard and not fading to pootling around not glazing you need very different pads. Also depends on what the current set up is (single, twin disc, mcyl size, original or aftermarket discs) and what condition it is in.

  4. Hi Folks,
    Thanks for the replies.
Bike has just undergone a complete rebuild, but not the engine, although cables were not replaced, just lubed and inspected, all the carb linkages were cleaned and lubed, along with the carbs stripped and cleaned, set up, the bike runs beautifully. If the throttle is not normally heavy then I need to look at replacing the cables with featherlight ones and checking the routing, there is a guide which is attached to the regulator bolt. Throttle tube and handlebar are clean, a tiny smear of light grease on both, no contact with the switch gear or the rubber handlebar end.
Single disc, normal road use, I don't rag my bikes, well, very rarely.

  5. EBC double H would be my choice then. Don’t need warming up, decent initial bite, which is particularly important with a single disc, resist fade well, not too sensitive to road crud, and they wear well. Quite harsh on discs but you can’t get bite without friction.

  6. I've never had much luck with cables once they've been a bit corroded even after a bit of lube they never seem as smooth again. Make a good mental note of the route , easy to get confused especially in the throttle itself. It does sound like you know what you're doing if you've got this far
    Good luck.
    Simon.

  7. Hi Folks,
    Thanks for the replies.
EBC pads ordered, and new cables too, which were always on the list, but this has prompted me to order them now.
    Cheers,
    Alan.

  8. Just a footnote, the EBC pads are a big improvement, thanks for the info.
    Alan.
