OK have left bike for about a month, nice n crispy today (a break in the weather) and have ridden to work. the throttle is 'notchy' ie, its like i have a cruise control setting (dont roll back easily). not being mechanical minded (although I do know its fuel injected) but is there a cable from the throttle to the fuel injectors ? and whats the method/easiest way to wd-40'it ? or is it a dealer visit ? thanks, bugs
The throttle tube is just around the bar so nothing to lube up there, the throttle cable housing could be the culprit and the butterflies which are accessible easily enough. Good squirt of WD on the moving parts wouldn't hurt but remember it's not a lubricant
Given how cold it is, did you use your heated grips this morning by any chance? Another possible cause for the symptoms you describe is the end of the heated grip snagging on the bar end weight as the rubber heats up and expands...
Well rode it all day, as had to do a few xmas run in London, it got better, so jury s out...it's going back into hibernation. Will have a good look one day..thanks for tips. Bugs
old post from last year, but the sticky throttle was back this morning, freed off a little later on the 15 mile ride. anyone else had anything similar ? - if not am about to squirt some WD40 in and around the area. bugs
Yes, I had similar problems with my 2012 Multistrada which was beginning to make negotiating roundabouts interesting. The problem was obviously friction within the twsitgrip but not between the twistgrip and the handlebar. It was not a cable or buterfly issue. I liberally squirted WD40 into the gaps at the cable end of the twistgrip which helped a little (as Freak says WD40 is not a lubricant) and took it to the dealers who stripped and greased the twistgrip. The problem has not returned.
ok thanks for the tip, it aint getting better, have booked myself into the Oval center to learn how to do this myself, and change the grips at the same time. will post progress report, bugs
Riggght then, Been to the oval center last weekend, great guys.... top tip the cables run behind the dash and there is like a bicycle 2 nut adjustment you can do to stop the throttle sticking. Next problem. I had bought a set of replacement ducati grips from ebay to fit on when the original 2010 were worn, so we went ahead and fitted them. however it turns out that the ones I have are for non-heated grips - the bit that is on the inside is larger on the heated grips to protect the wires contacts. Anyway, no issues, fitted the new one anyway but the other is too narrow so one is on but wrong and the other I left. so decided to call ducati for a set of the replacement grips and...... £220 !! what... Am guessing that the heated grips is part of the whole thing and you cant buy the rubber bit. my question is has anyone fitted something like the spider grips or can recommend a good aftermarket replacement for HEATED grips (not standard) thanks bugs
Im wondering if it is a generic issue with all throttles from all makes of bike. Some older bikes will have some wear in them, but they tend to be either overlubricated causing lots of dust to build up and clog the cables. Ive seen some with what looks like aluminium/steel corrosion, maybe cuased by salt spray from winter hacks. I tend to change my cables as opposed to try and dry them, clean, lubricate etc. They are cheap enough, same with speedo cables. Mine broke a couple of months ago, only done 14k miles.
Bugs, standard Ducati replacements fit. I just took off my progr I'll is from my 998 and they went straight on my 2010 MTS1200s with duke heated grips.
